Does Trilinear work / make a visible difference on a flat panel LCD, or it it only relecant for CRT displays?

It's in the menu under settings/display/hardware. Select it and find out. I don't see why a flat panel would make a difference.

I heard that trilinear won't work if you have your video card set to "performance" rather than "quality", that performance is by default bilnear. Is that true?

Not true with the radeon cards.
