September 19, 201015 yr Would a SATA3 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache be near as fast as a SSD?I did not mentionn the 10K and 15K RPM varieties because their prices trash the idea.Al
September 19, 201015 yr Don't quote me on this, but I think it won't perform any better than a regular 7200rpm and 64MB cache drive. The transfer rate of a single HDD is far lower than SATA3, SATA2 and even IDE.Only a RAID set up could help take advantage of SATA3, and god only knows how many of those drives you would need to achieve more than 3GB/s
September 19, 201015 yr No. The fastest SSD's reach sequential read speed of about 280MBs. The WD Cav. Black 64MB 7200RPM reaches about 50-100MBs sequential.
September 19, 201015 yr Author No. The fastest SSD's reach sequential read speed of about 280MBs. The WD Cav. Black 64MB 7200RPM reaches about 50-100MBs sequential. So a SSD is only about 4 times faster than the 7200 rpm HDsInteresting, I thought it might be higher.al
September 20, 201015 yr I just saw a discussion on HD speeds here and turns out 7200 actually does better than 100mb/shttp://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/topic/6372-ozx/
September 20, 201015 yr That's a 10k HD that is being discussed. Notice the 7200RPM does about 70MBs.
September 20, 201015 yr Yeah just tested my 7200RPM and it did about 90mb/s. So the SSD is probably the best choice
