September 26, 201015 yr You mean memory right? Maybe a 5% performance loss at worse, no big deal really. Even CPU clock speed has more of an impact on memory bandwidth than timings themselves. But man, it's the Vcore for sure! you nailed it there. Don't C2D need some 1.35V - 1.4V to be stable @ 3.8GHz?Yes memory sorry I didn't specify there. That's good to hear I was worried over having to deal with insane loading times just to get some extra speed.Yep yep and yep I should have thought of that before, I think 1.35V sounds right however I looked up the best batches of E8400's and there's one that does 4ghz on 1.24ghz. However I don't believe I got any of those since they all came from Costa Rica and mine is tagged as coming from Malaysia. I expect about 1.3v for 3.8ghzI too agree: don't bother upgrading your RAM if you can hit your desired OC. The expense of a new RAM kit will not give you that much bang for the buck for your rig. That's what I was hoping to hear :Big Grin: Thanks guys now I'm going to overclock the heck out of this thing!Well sort of.
September 26, 201015 yr Good thing you remembered Vcore, never heard of a good overclock without it. How high are you gonna push it 4GHz?
September 26, 201015 yr Good thing you remembered Vcore, never heard of a good overclock without it. How high are you gonna push it 4GHz?Oh how I wish I was brave enough to run a 4ghz overclock :P If I ever figure out how to run overclocking profiles I'll probably make one at 4ghz for FSX then another at 3.6ghz for FS9 and then a third at default speeds for browsing and games that don't require much power. The main thing is that I can't afford to burn out this chip and although the highest temperature I've ever seen is 65C under Prime95 full load it just seems too much a risk. So I think I'll keep it at around 3.8ghz for now.
