KIAS drops to 0

Recommended Posts

Recently when flying various add-on aircraft (specifically the Carenado Cessna Caravan and the Epic Victory from Lionheart Creations), my airspeed indicator, which is set to show KIAS, will drop to 0 (zero)kts while I'm in cruise mode. The aircraft continues to fly normally, and I don't actually lose airspeed. However, the reading on the indicator reflects zero IAS. This will last 5-10 minutes or longer and then the indicator will spontaneously again show the correct IAS reading. I have no idea why this happens and I haven't noticed it (yet) on any of the stock FSX aircraft. Anyone else observe this anomaly and know what may be causing it? Thanks.

Turn on the pitot heat because the pitot tube has ice in it. The pitot tube is the input sensor for the airspeed indicator. When ice has collected in the tube the outside air can no longer pass into it and therefore your airspeed indicator stops working.Todd

OK, thanks. Never thought of that possibility.
