Rectangular Sea block covering TP tiles...

Recommended Posts

This is something weird. I am doing a World Tour with TileProxy and I was flying in Egypt, from Cairo to Aswan International, flying South along the Nile river. What I saw on my left (East) was a big block of Sea. I said to myself "That's the Red Sea." but then I looked at the GPS and the Red Sea should be farther East. That area should be desert.I suspected a TileProxy glitch, so I erased the tiles with the cache browser and started again, taking off from Aswan International and flying North East: again the big rectangular block of sea was there.Do you know what is it? Have you experienced before anything like that? I can verify by taking off from Aswan [HESN] and fly North East. If you switch to satellite view you should be able to see the big block of sea immediately. Thanks for any hint!PaoloEDIT: It is not rectangular, I have moved from side to side, here's the shape:

Well Dang!I thought it was just ME!It's always possible that it a FS or TP glitch but I saw the same.I had a very similar issue at probably the same location while doing the Nile a couple years ago and it might have been the same exact location. There was also one more central to the Med in Algeria or Lybia - the imagery was there but it kept wanting to draw a block of water. I suspect there is an image tile missing at some level... TP reverts to next larger or ocean if it doesn't have a complete set to work with; and LOD8 is the largest that TP tries to make. Anyway, it's not just you...We can persue it if you have nothing better to do.Loyd

Hi Loyd,I begin to believe missing tiles as well. I was looking once again at the MS-DOS Window and I saw that a few elements in the ovals at low resolutions were missing.Does it matter to use the lower LOD level (8) or not?Paolo

I don't normally use the built-in LOD8 in this version; if you do, then it would have to be something at a smaller LOD missing (?)One test might be to do a level mapping and substitute either LOD7 or 9 and see if it changes anything... or turn on/off the LOD8 feature. As my highschool band director used to say about an out of tune instrument: do something; it'll either get better or worse...Loyd
