747 climbing without consent?

ok so I finally got my 747-400 and took her for a test flight (first one in this model)I am in FSX, I am not in Lnav, vnav I am just going for a free flight. I have set the FMC for just airport to airport, no waypoints etc... set FL220. Doing the usual set up on the AP I have my heading and speed they are fine.. I reach FL220 and she settles, then within seconds off we go, 23000, 24000..... 28000... she ain't gonna stop, we're climbing..... ATC screaming at me to expedite my descent... I can't??? What's going on?Adam Smith

Hi AdamDid you program a cruise alt in the FMC? What did you use to climb with? FLCH or V/S? And did you remember to actually press the alt button? If you don't press it the FMC alt will get prioritized.

yes programmed in the fmc, then climed manually from take off to about 3000ft, then from AP then used FL/CHFlying again now and so far all good..

Can I suggest trying the tutorial flights. Then when you are trying things "your way", you can say what it was that you did differently. It will help a lot in diagnosing what you did wrong.
