September 9, 200322 yr Has anyone read the OpEd over at Flightsim about the realism (or lack therof) in the way FS models rudder response? If what the author says is true- and I'm not a real pilot so I don't know- it seems incredible that I've never heard anyone mention it before. Would seem like a huge oversight in flight modeling, and at least something that people who plan to use FS as a "training tool" in their real flight studies would want to know about. But given that, having not heard of this before, is there another side to the story or is the author right on point? Interested in opinions from pilots and non-pilots on this one, please take a read of the OpEd if you get a chance.Best,Joel
September 9, 200322 yr I guess I never paid any attention to this, but it pretty much seems true.Nevertheless, I always roll my eyes when I read suggestions that anything in Flight Simulator would cause dangerous habits in a real aircraft. People are not stupid. Anything I do in Flight Simulator stays at home when I go fly a real plane.I play racing games on Playstation but that sure doesn't affect my real driving. ;) http://brianc.vip.warped.com/kpwk_sig.gif
September 9, 200322 yr Author The rudder effect in MSFS does seem a little faint .... or could that be the FDE (?) :). If you ever come across Airline Simulator 2 try the following: whilst in flight, apply FULL rudder in the MD-83 and see what happens ... you will be nosediving in a matter of seconds, just like the real thing!!! :( MSFS aircraft only seem to yaw slightly :-/ :-hmmm Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
