September 9, 200322 yr Hi all,Running FS9 with onboard sound (Epox mobo) 'fullness' of sound isgreat but it is 'crackie' and fps fulls by 5+ with stutters whenenabled in sim, anyone use this and have it running ok..?thanks,Steve :D
September 9, 200322 yr Not working entirely correclty for me. I've got C-Media AC97 and get kind of an ocillating of the engine sounds in high load areas. Have the latest driver.Todd
September 9, 200322 yr SteveUsing a fairly similar setup but with K7S5A mobo and XP2000 CPU .The AC97 o/b sound works well- always has.Have you tried the latest driver pack 973952- it's a 14mb download from the AC site.It seems to work very well and has no effect on fps.It has a lot off new sound effect options in it.Dave
September 9, 200322 yr Hey guys,Thanks for the replys..:DDave, do you have a link please, can't find the packyou suggest.....want to give them a try as the onlyother option is my old SB card which has the most horrid flatsound and lack of driver updates which Xp does not like one bit.thanks bro,Steve
September 9, 200322 yr Steve Try via this page on the K7S5A forumhttp://pub140.ezboard.com/fk7s5amotherboar...opicID=15.topicThe one you want is the 5.12.01.0034.....BUT BE CAREFUL - I don't know for sure that these are not specific to the AC97 /K7S5A combination. The actual website is www.epox.com.twGood luckDave
September 9, 200322 yr I was having a similar problem with my ASUS A7N8X; however, it did only appear in Train Simulator, not in Flight Simulator or any other games. In TS, engine sounds (traction motor sounds in particular) would not be played in a smoothly increasing manner, but rather be played back in a "stepped" fashion. I had no idea why this might have been happening until I browsed to Realtek out of...well, call it a hunch. I then noticed there was that codec package available for download, installed it and was pleasantly surprised that the problem I outlined above was gone. In addition, general sound quality was also notably improved.
September 9, 200322 yr I have an Asus A7V133 with the AC'97 sound too. I also had problems but I downloaded the latest sound drivers from Via's site the other day and my problems have since gone away.http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=69Make sure you have one of the chipsets listed before you download and install.Another thing that helped was that I bumped sound acceleration all the way up in dxdiag. I've seen users report that turning this all the way down helped. So, you need to experiment and see what works best for you. Also, while your visiting Via Arena, I'd download and install the latest Hyperion 4in1 drivers. http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300*** Disclaimer - Use at your own risk. September 10, 200322 yr Hi guys,Well had a go, found the VIA Combo to have no hit on FSP but the sound was no good, thought it best not to use the K7 mobo set and gofor the Via Hyper 4-1 and Realtek wdm 349, cracking sound has gone now, but the FPS issue is still there, odd thing is that when I sayuse the default 747 panel FPS with sound on go down by 6+ but if Ipress S to get the 2 gauge displays up the FPS go up to new normal, does onboard sound use more CPU time than a PCI job...? the sound is really good but this 6+ FPS can make the difference for take-off/landing smooth, more so with any wx running, so guess I better return to my old SB card, or maybe trya SB 5.1 which seem to be a reasonable price, cash is thin on the ground for flightsim...:-(Steve
September 11, 200322 yr Hey guys,Final notes re AC97 sound in Fs9, had always had the old SB cardin when formatting my HD for a new start, WinXp etc and decided toreformat again with no SB card and AC97, stutters gone, fps doinga nice job now, pity I never did this in the first place wuda saved a load of grief, still live a learn a little each time I guess, thankyou for all the folks who posted on this ;-)used: wdm 349 sound file with Via Hyperion 4-1cheers all,Steve
