September 10, 200322 yr In 98 and 2000 the world was flat and boring so I flew the lear and 73 all the time. The fun was navigation thru VOR's and airways. With 2002 providing auto gen the fun was switched to flying low and slow in the 172 with the new VC with navigation being landmarks. Currnetly I am on a US tour with the new sim flying into all 48 state capitals along with national sites, High detail airports and big cities. Starting in Meigs and will be ending in Maine I am currently in KOKC headed for KDEN. With having the ability to disable commercial traffic (my system cant take 100% AI traffic but can take 100%AI GA Traffic only and provide good frames) I can load up all the small fields with GA and enjoy having traffic at all the uncontrolled fields that I fly into on this trip. Exploring all the new a/c I found that flying the Jenny gives me a new thrill of both navigating and pilotage. Having only the compass and alt allong with sectionals navigating is a thrill and reward. With hte jenny climb rate and not so great open view you cant just climb and look around. Its more like do your best to get to 2000 feet AGL and see what you can see making sure you've done a good job in preflighting your route with time and corrected headings. Then add in the way this tank handles and its not just landings that keep you focused but all aspects of a flight. From engine start up to shut down you are a pilot and not just a spectator turning the auto pilot knobs occassionally. Since theres no transponder I dont fly into Class C or B airspace and dont request flightflo. Having all those little GA planes and fields around means you have to both keep your eyes looking all around as much as you can while not drifting off course because this plane doesnt react quickly but will quickly get out of control. Although there is a GPS I feel its cheating and have only used it when trying out the Lear. Now if I can just learn how to fly that Cub with out it weather veining on landings into a crash.NP
September 10, 200322 yr Hey Nathan. I do the same thing you do only on a smaller scale. Lot's of fun just you and that plane.
September 10, 200322 yr 3-d clouds are no good if you spend all your time looking at 'em whizzin' by in heavy jets.... The Jenny is one of the best features of FS2004.... It remains one of my favorite aircraft for the type of flying FS2004 seems best for--open country, barnstormin' style of flight....-John

I guess all tail draggers are prone to ground loop - some more than others. My old Taylorcraft certainly was. But I can tell you from flying the real J3 that it is much, much too exaggerated in the flight sim. The only way you can prevent a ground loop is to stay ahead of the airplane with the rudder every second until the rollout stops. You have to counter every slight little deviation the instant it happens. The tendency is to over-correct and induce a deviation in the opposite direction. In the sim this is very, very touchy, especially if you are using a twist joystick for rudder. The real plane isn't nearly that hard to control. Maybe you can turn down your settings and find a happy medium when flying the cub.Dewey
September 11, 200322 yr I'm using both CH yoke and pedals and have yet to complete a flight with the J3. After about 500 plus hours of simming I get beyond mad that I cant land this plane (you have no Idea the amount of swear words that can be heard upon landing/crashing)!!! I'll keep trying and once I get it , believe me I will feel like I've learn to fly again for the first time. God I love this new sim.NP
