September 11, 200322 yr In all the desperation to solve the stuttering and Flickering problems with ATI cards and FS9, the Omegas drivers have done just that....If you are interested: http://www.omegacorner.com/index.htmlSys:Asus A7N8X V.2AthlonXp 2800 barton@333mhzCorsair 1GB DDR PC 2700@333mhzRadeon ATI 9700 Pro clocked at 336/32480GB WD HDD 2mb cache60GB WD HDDWinXP pro SP1FS2004Creative Soundblaster LiveSaitek X45Troy
September 11, 200322 yr Surprising- I've seen several posts from Omega users who have found no improvement with respect to the flickering issue... Troy could you let us know what resolution you are running at and such?Best,Joel
September 11, 200322 yr Hello from near KDFW. I really couldn't give a rat's *** about a few screen flashes that go away very quickly and also don't have any apparent stuttering issues that I'm aware of. However, I can not believe those screwballs released something where any text, e.g. learning center and flight lessons, becomes completely unreadable. As an ex-QA manager, it boggles my mind that they released this. Does the Omega driver fix this? Thanks much,sj
September 11, 200322 yr "learning center and flight lessons, becomes completely unreadable. As an ex-QA manager, it boggles my mind that they released this. Does the Omega driver fix this?"The above two options I have not access and therefore would not know the answer until I check tonight. Since I've been flightsimming for 10 years I haven't any real reason to visit them anyways..However, I will post my findings sometime tonight...Cheers,Troy
September 11, 200322 yr Joel,You'll have to understand that I've been trying as many tweaks that have been offered here in this Forum such as, Compressing my FS9 folder and running disk defrag. Both are two of the most recent changes before seeing any significant differences at all. Well, with the exception of textures loading faster after compressing, this is true.Nonetheless, Omega does offer few different resolutions in FS9 not previously Offered. While I'm still using 1600x1200x32 with everything maxed out, other modes tend to do just as well or better. One other thing, the resolve appears most noticeable with Flickering than with stutters. The stuttering I'm ashamed to say, were much more noticeable after compressing my FS9 and before using Omega's drivers. So if you plan to do this, avoid compressing your FS9 folder/subs before using Omega's drivers..How ironic: Compressing FS9 foldera)improves texture loadingb)increases stutteringOh by the way,if you download and install Omega's drivers, you will have a few installation options1) Omega's default settings2) Hacked for Radeon 95003) hacked for Radeon 9700 ProI choose No. (3)Hope this helps..Troy
September 11, 200322 yr Use the F5 key until ATI fixes MS' glitch. It cleans up the text so you can read it. Or, you can use the main FS9 folder to access the learning center. Text is OK there.
September 11, 200322 yr "In all the desperation to solve the stuttering and Flickering problems with ATI cards and FS9, the Omegas drivers have done just that...."Which Omega's are you using that resolved the flickering?
September 11, 200322 yr GREG,Sorry..Should have been more specific. Its the very first one on this page for WinXp: http://www.driverheaven.net/downloads/index4.htmThe link from Omega directs you here. Make sure you select the appropriate OSTroy
September 11, 200322 yr I have yet to try a driver (Omega, starstorm or NVidia) that could cure my severe sound-stutter :(
September 11, 200322 yr No joy here with the Omegaized 3.7's (Omega 2.4.78). Still have the flickering upon pressing the "ALT" key and text corruption.Curious thing... I installed the 9700 Hack with the drivers, and now my system sees my 9700 Pro as:Chip Type: Radeon 9800 AGP (0x4E44).The device code (0x4E44) is for the 9700 Pro. :-hmmm I did my standard test flight after installing the new drivers, but noticed no difference between them and the previous iteration (2.4.74a).Sys specs:AMD 2400XP @ 2600+ASUS A7N8X V2.0 Deluxe nVidia 1.16 Drivers1 Gig Corsair XMS 3200ATI 9700 Pro @ 350/330Maxtor 40 Gig 7200 ATA 133Sony 52x24x52 CD-RW100 Mb Iomega ZipLian-Li and Antec 430W PSUWin XP Home w/ SP1
September 11, 200322 yr Well 'm not sure whats up guys...Maybe its all a fluke.Maybe I haven't taken enough flights yetOr maybe its because I'm in the NorthWest (Boise ID) where the temp. has dipped more than 20-25* causing some very good environment changes..I'm sorry I don't have the answers and while the drivers are currently working for me, I hope ATI can come up with much better news.Regards,Troy
September 11, 200322 yr Hi sj,I have been using the 44.03 Omega drivers for some time now and just checked the text sources you mentioned and I cannot fault the display of them - they are perfectly readable.Whether the new drivers are any better than what I already have - we will see shortly ..........Laurie WhelanBrisbane, Australiahttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg
September 11, 200322 yr Boise, huh? Nice town... might move into that neighborhood in a few years. I'm in the Peoples Republic of California... the land of moron politicians.Congrats, Troy, on getting the screen flickering sorted. I wonder if you would do a simple test... try changing the resolution in the sim to something lower? Say... 1024 x 768. Let us know if the screen flickering reappears?I'm still wondering why the flickering goes away at resolutions higher than 1600 x 1200 for most of us. I'd run at a higher res, but by eyes just aren't as young as they used to be.Thanks,
