Reloads Scenery after high sim rate

Featured Replies

I am using FS2002 and noticed that after I crank the sim rate to greater than 4x (long boring stretches on AP)and then slow down the rate again the program reloads scenery and AI files etc. Only happens when slowing down from 8x to 4x.Is this a common bug? Fixable? Or just a problem with my set-up.:-hmmm

Howdy:the reason for this is that AI traffic is only updated/visible up to 4x sim rate. If you go to a higher rate the AI traffic will simply disappear; once you move back to 4x or slower, the sim needs to reset the AI for the region you're flying in, hence the reload. So, it's not a bug, just a hard-coded system "feature".With increasing sim speed, the behavior of AI becomes more erratic and less predictable (just like it's harder to control your A/C when flying without autopilot), which I assume is the reason why it makes no sense to have AI at 8x or higher.Cheers, Holger

Perfectly normal actually, when you go above 4x speed the graphics engine dumps the "hi res" textures and replaces them with the low res versons it also dumps all AI visuals. when you go from 8x to 4x it reloads them back.

Thanks for the clarification - glad I'm not going nuts! I'll try and avoid going at 8x or more in the future!
