Multiple Monitor Problem - Radeon 9700

Featured Replies

I asked this in the hardware formum and got no responses. I would be grateful if the moderator would let me post this in the forum with the most visitors. Thanks.I am trying to run two monitors out of my Radeon 9700. I can get them working all right, but every time I power off the machine, on the next boot-up, the card only sees one monitor. I have to literally unplug and re-plug in monitors for them to be recognized on the ATI Display tab. I can't enable the second monitor in Windows nor extend my desktop. It shows up as greyed out and won't come on line. What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting somewhere that saves the configuration? This is getting to be real pain in the rear. I hope someone can help. ATI just sends me FAQs which have not adressed my problem. Thanks!

Since I don't have Radeon products, I'm really not sure of the problem. I would check several things, BIOS and the graphics adapter driver. I am assuming the 9700 has two monitor outputs and that would seem to mean that the graphics adapter driver is the problem. One thing to try is swapping the monitors on the card outputs. I have one monitor that seems to stick and not come up properly at times causing a no image for that computer. In my case, I press the ON/OFF switch twice and it usually works. I start this computer with the computer off and the monitor on, then start the computer.W. Sieffert

I agree that switching the monitors is the first thing to try and you might try un-installing the second monitor and re-install it. I have the same video card and two monitors. Everything works on all of the video drivers from 3.2 to 3.7. On your "display properties" are there two monitors shown? Does selection of monitor #1 show a check mark in the box for "use this device as primary" and selection of monitor #2 show "for extention of my windows desktop"? Next go to the "settingsadvancedDisplays" and check that both monitors are selected and set up properly. Hope this may help..
