September 14, 200322 yr Is it necessary to copy the FSsound.dll file in FS2k2 to FS9?I am trying to make a panel work that I used in FS2k2.I see another FSSOUND.dll in the modules folder.I think it was the module folder. Thanks,Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
September 14, 200322 yr There's no FSSound.dll in your FS9 MODULES by default, Ron, so you must have put it there when installing a panel. FSSound.dll is, indeed, useful if not essential for many 3rd party panels to work correctly so yes, you should copy it over; just make sure whichever version you keep in FS9 MODULES is the latest of what you have. You'll need to put the OLDMODULES section in your FS9.CFG file too. Refer to the FS9 Tips at the top of this forum for guidance.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
September 14, 200322 yr I'd like to warn that FSSound.dll might indeed cause instability in FS9.I've quite surely tracked it down to be the reason for blue screen of deaths when playing FS9.So I wouldn't be surprised if it causes weird things for other people.Anyway just for a reference.. I'm using Fortissimo III soundcard
September 14, 200322 yr Thanks for the info.I copied 1 fssound.dll over which was FSsound.dll, then I saw another one that was FSSOUND.dll in caps.I think one of them must have come from a FFG 738 that I installed with an exe file and later deleted just from the aircraft folder.I am not at that computer now.So I just need 1 FSsound.dll along with the old modules entry in the cfg.Right? Thanks,Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
September 14, 200322 yr Yes, caps or no caps, doesn't matter. Just use whichever is the latest version of the two you have.I note Fishu's comment and am sorry to hear that - be warned, I guess - but this manoeuvre has caused no problems whatsoever for me or anyone else I have talked to.What's more, I always say NO to any warning messages asking me to disable things (which gets logged, you don't see the message twice) and my computer has yet to jump out the window shouting "TOLD YOU SO! TOLD YOU SO! BANZAAAAIIIIIIIII!!!"Good luck.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
September 15, 200322 yr I have a problem with FSSound.dll on my machine. I'm not sure why, but for some reason, FSSound.dll seems to be at the root of the problem. When I added some new panels that required it, I copied FSSound.dll to the modules folder and edited the fs9.cfg file with the oldmodules tag (as one is supposed to do). When I try to use these new add-on panels, everything works except the quality of the sound is really horrible. There is a continuous crackling and popping sound. When I switch to a different viewpoint (e.g. spot plane), the sound becomes almost completely static. When I switch back to an old default panel that doesn't require FSSound.dll, the sound quality is fine and back to normal.I'm not sure why I have this problem, since FSSound works perfectly when I run FS2002. I believe I have the latest audio driver. My sound card is Soundblaster Live 5.1. Any suggestions?--Matt
September 26, 200322 yr Update your soundcard driver, via windows update (not soundblaster itself!!!)The windows one works and resolved all my sound issues, the soundblaster ones have a habit of screwing up my machine
September 30, 200322 yr Actually, when I asked for help in another post, the best advice I got was from RonB49. I simply ran dxdiag and set sound acceleration to the "basic" setting. This fixed the problem for me when using FSSound.dll (for now).--Matt
