Tip: Mipmap slider

Featured Replies

A few days ago I was complaining over at Lago's forum because their Twin Otter had blurry external textures on my system. Forum user Kofi told me to increase my mipmap slider in the display configuration dialog, hardware tab. I increased mipmap level from 4 to 5 and voila, crips textures on my Twin Otter. But this is not the end of the story! I started to compare the default planes with mipmap quality set to 5, and then back to 4. What a difference! Examples for big improvements are the Baron, DC-3 and Vega (white). Dreamfleet's Archer looks much better, too. Other planes were not affected at all, like the default Cub, Dreamfleet's C310 or the RealAir Simulations SF.260 - all had very crisp looking textures even at mipmap level 4.So while this tip might not bring the same result on every system, and does not increase FPS, it certainly works well for me, and you might give it a try.My specs: AthlonXP 2400+, GeForce4 Ti4200, Detonator 45.24, 512 MB RAM.Just my 2c (EUR),VOlker :]

Yes, mipmapping seems to affect aircraft as well. I have not seen any FPS impact so I run mine at max(8). 1ghz, 400MX 64kb Nividia.Dick KLBE

When I turn up mipmapping then I get these uncomfortable tree, cloud, horizon flashing effects that really detracts from the experience.
