Black squares around trees and other scenies in fs9

Featured Replies

Today something is really wierd with fs9. I noticed black squares around trees and other sceneries that I havn't before noticed. Can someone direct me on how to fix this problem. I noticed it when I changed the mega scenery textures to wi in one folder and it started having problems. Now I think I might go back to the well known date before installation of mega scenery and see if it goes back. If it doesn't "GOODYE FS2004" "Hello FS2002".

Ok I went back to the date before installation of the megascenery and the black squares are gone. So that is good that they have disappeared. What I can't understand is why. I have directx 9.0bGeforce 3 ti-500 44.03 driversI maybe extended the scenery textures after I have installed the mega scenery. I really am not sure what happened. It takes a long time to load though.I'll try to bring mega scenery back and see if there is a problem again. I am begining to think it is the mega scenery but I am not sure. I have to play around abit to find out. Does it not like you to edit the textures or Wi should be wi for winter instead? I really don't know. Any info would be helpful on this.

I got this once when I turned my video card settings to 2x AA instead of the 4X I was running previously. Setting to either no AA or to 4X and above I don't get those boxes. Not sure what causes it, but worth a try.

Hi Kurt, normally, the black squares around trees are caused by FS2004 not displaying transparent textures properly. This is due to a change in the graphics engine, which causes this problem with quite a few FS2002 sceneries. If this happens, you will see the tree with a black square around it. However, if you only see a black or white square, then no texture is being called up for the object. I understand the Megascenery uses customized autogen. If this is the case, you would also have to rename the autogen objects in the same way as the ground textures. The best way to do this, would be to install the scenery again into a dummy folder outside FS, and see, which files are created in the main 'texture' folder. If there are files called 'xxxx_su.bmp', you found your culprits. rename them to '...wi.bmp' and copy them to your main FS texture folder.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Thanks Gosta. I installed all of the textures now for the year around after I set my restore point to go back. I then mannully installed the megascenery back to the sim through the scenery library. Seems to be much better now. There isn't any black boxes so far. I am crossing my fingers for tommorow though. I do have the fs2002 John Wayne Orange County scenery installed into fs2004 that may have caused this anomly but I had it in for about 3 weeks without problems. Now onto something else. Late afternoon sunshine sometimes looks golden and other times not on the aircraft. How come? I know I liked that effect with fs2002 and I wish I could get it more often in fs2004. In real life when the sun starts going down it casts a yellowish tinge on buildings and aircraft. I would like to see this in fs2004. It seems to be to white or something. Please bare with me. I know most of the time it seems to run fine but I do find some strange things happening that I like to express to find out what is happening. Thank You,
