How does TRAFFIC affect frame rates exactly?

Featured Replies

Hi I increased the aircraft TRAFFIC in FS2004 to 100%. I have noticed a considerable slowdown. How and why does that happen? I mean, I don't see a significant number of planes at most airports in spite of the increase I input. By my increasing the percentage, does that slow frame rates by what's flying as well? What percentage do most of you use...and what else can you tell me about how this setting works? Thanks, Stan

Obviously any aircraft that are actually being rendered will affect framerates, but FS stills needs to keep track of the other aircraft in the air, but not on your screen. In the Traffic Tools readme file, I think it explained this a bit. Basically, FS can't keep track of every flight in the air, so it just tracks ones that are within a few hundred miles (or so). Still, this uses a bit of processing power, so it can affect framerates.- Martin

Thanks,That explains it a little. I'll try some experiments tonight, and drop my traffic to see how that affects things. When I was at 100%, I expected to see a lot of aircraft at every airport. Obviously, that's not the case. Stan

When the new version of AFCAD comes out, which will allow people to increase the number of gates at an airport, you will see many more planes. Some of the smaller airports (KOMA for example) seem to have about 25% to 40% of the gates compared to the real airport.--Matt
