July 17, 200223 yr When you are flying for pleasure, what altitude would you normally chose to fly at? (AGL).
July 17, 200223 yr Well you have to maintain at least 1,000 agl over populated areas. With that in mind it all depends on direction of flight and if I am crossing a body of water. 2,500 to 3,000ft is fine but when I cross a large body of water I like to climb to at least 5,500 or 6,500ft so that if my engine quits I can "best glide" to make the beach. From 360 degrees to 179 degrees you should be at an odd altitude plus 500ft. 180 to 359 degrees you should be at an even altitude plus 500ft. Many pilots will fly at 2,800ft to avoid everyone at 2,500 and 3,000ft. Have fun. :-wave Ron
