Initial installation of FS 2004 - Initial Tweaking?

Featured Replies

Can we start a thread with "initial" tweaking that should be done to FS 2004 following an initial / reinstall (ie. the cfg file, etc)That would be great =)I looked in the tips/tweak section, and there isn't really a thread for initial tweaking.

Considering that there are about as many different configurations of hardware out there as there are stars in the sky I think it would be somewhat difficult, if not impossible, to define anything under the heading of initial tweaking. Also, what one person considers to be an important tweak might have less importance to another person.Anyway, do we really need another thread on tweaking? Just my two euros worth.David

It would be nice to have 1 initial thread with all the basic tweaks, instead of 2000 to sort through =)

Try every one of the 2,000, and keep the ones that work for you.Allcott

For me the two most useful are:1)change to the following in fs9.cfg file from the default settings:TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000Improves texture quality nearby. And 2)Rename default.xml file to default.bakThis remove some autogen, but prevents the slowdowns when flying back and forth.Joe

Like Allcott says- try all the tweaks ,but One At A Time ,so you'll know which one is the one that mucks it all up!CheersDave
