  1. With the release a few days ago of UK2000's version of Guernsey in the Channel Islands comes the sad news that no more new airports will be made by them for FS9. I was rather hoping that Bournemouth and Southampton airports would be made for FS9 as I was so looking forward to them. However, Soarfly at https://www.soarflyconcepts.com/ are reported to be making an FS9 version of Southampton for release sometime this year and they have two lovely other airfields for us - Alderney, in the Channel Islands, and Sandown, in the Isle of Wight. Soarfly are worth taking a look at. David
  2. I had a look at their website as well as a few reviews. I download weather metars from an aviation wx website and plug these into the sim manually. To be honest I couldn't see from the FSGRW screenshots any significant difference from what I am already achieving. But FSGRW does have the advantage of saving time by doing all the wx settings for you if you wish to buy the software and fly with up to date weather settings. Dijvid
  3. Let me know how you get on. I'm going to try a long flight tonight with heavier weather to see what happens then. So far I have only done short tests. Dijvid
  4. Skywatcher - I've noticed a line in the FS9.cfg file which is "CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8". 8 seems to be a default value and from what I have now read elsewhere most people who have played around with this reckon that the maximum value you can set here is 12. With 8 as the value I would get gaps in the cloud coverage where more clouds would be banked up in a straight line several miles ahead. Setting this to 12 makes the whole thing much more random and realistic and the straight line of clouds appears not to happen now. I need to experiment more! Dijvid
  5. Thanks for the replies. I do have AS and REX - bought them when they first came out but I don't use them now. I wasn't overly impressed with them at that time although they may well have improved a lot since then. I still use Flight Environment which, if I remember correctly, was first introduced around about 2004/2005. Yep, it's an old product and easy to use with virtually no overhead when it comes to smooth flying, and gives me sufficient eye candy. Guess I was hoping for some "silver bullet" I could tweak but I think that Skywatcher is right in what he says. Dijvid
  6. I seem to find that clouds come in banks with some [fairly] clear weather in between them. Are there any settings that I could tweak that would give me a more overall coverage? I notice that there are a number of weather settings in the FS9.CFG file but I'm not sure exactly what they all mean. My present settings in the sim are: Sight distance = 100 miles Cloud draw distance = 60 miles 3-D cloud percentage = 100% Detailed clouds = Selected Cloud coverage density = Maximum Many thanks for any help. Dijvid
  7. Useful - thanks Skywatcher. Dijvid
  8. Thanks for the reply, DJ. When this sort of thing happens you feel kinda helpless without a techie understanding of the Internet. Next time I'll know!! Dijvid
  9. For 12 hours I was unable to access Avsim - I kept getting an error message asking me to contact my host [whoever they are?] about it. I tried contacting my ISP but they said they couldn't help. Did anyone else experience this? Dijvid
  10. I've created some user waypoints which I will want to access on a regular basis. So far, so good - I can see them in the waypoints list [Window/User Waypoint menu option]. However, how on earth can I call them up and select them for insertion in a flight plan? I've Googled, looked at FAQs and even read the user manual [!!] but I just can't work out how to do this. If someone can help I'll be most grateful as I feel a complete idiot not being able to work this out for myself. Ta! Dijvid OK, forget it! I've finally worked it out.
  11. Many thanks for your reply, Jim. After flying the sim for 13 years now there is always something new that you didn't know about! Dijvid
  12. I have an airport where the developer has used "real" ground textures instead of the default textures. These look totally unrealistic when on approach so I want to delete them and revert to the stock textures instead. There are a whole bunch of texture files in the format "011222231230303an.agn" and "011222231230303su.bmp" which I assume are the "real" textures. If I remove these I would expect the stock textures to then show, but they don't. In fact, there are absolutely no textures at all which seems to suggest that the developer has somehow disabled the stock textures. Is there an obvious trick I am missing or am I trying to effect the impossible? Any help will be much appreciated. BTW, the airport is LFLC by France VFR. Dijvid
  13. It might be a good idea if you post your question in the QW forum as no-one here has been able to answer you. Dijvid
  14. Just as a matter of interest not all that long ago I searched for and found a link where I was able to buy the FS9 version of the Beech 1900 from PMDG - it's not listed on their main site. And before anyone asks for the link I'm afraid that I didn't save it but I certainly did buy a legitimate copy from them. However, although I have bought this aircraft it has done nothing to make me want to move to FSX or P3D to get their more improved products - and it wouldn't have made me any more determined if I have somehow got the 1900 free either. Dijvid
  15. OK, so let's face reality! There are as many different computer systems "out there" as there are hairs on your head and yet we expect every developer to produce the perfect addon for all of us. That's impossible! We are not satisfied if there is the slightest stutter, even for a nano-second, in our beloved sim. I get "sticky" taxiways on the odd occasion, and I have a "bumpy" ride on the odd occasion, and I have some misplaced signs on the odd occasion. So what??!! Nothing is perfect in this world. Yet we have a great sim in FS2004 which performs miracles for us. 36 years ago I sat in front of a tiny home computer displaying a few dots on a tiny TV screen and having a ball with my first flight simulator. I had not the slightest idea way back then what flight simming would develop into. I'm very grateful to Microsoft and all the developers for what they have achieved in allowing me to enjoy my hobby in such a wonderful way today. Dijvid
  16. I have suffered all three of these as well but despite trying to make modifications to the airports with ADE9X I haven't been able to overcome them. If I have an overwhelming to desire to fly to those airports then I just put up with the problems. Fortunately, I have only experienced these a couple of times so it's not a real issue for me. Dijvid
  17. Presumably this was not happening on your previous PC? So just a couple of thoughts .... Are you using the same operating system on your new PC as you were using on the old one? Or have you now moved to Windows 10 which, for some people, can give various anomalies? Also, are you using up to date drivers for your graphics? If you are then maybe try using an older version. For me I find that a version of nVidia drivers from a couple of years ago give me better performance than newer ones. OOPS! Just noticed that I should have addressed this reply to GeneralPickle. Guess this is what happens when an old thread is resurrected. But please don't apologise for resurrecting it - despite what others might say there is no problem in doing this!! Dijvid
  18. Hi Harald One of the first things I did when I bought the Bonanza was to get rid of the RXP gauges! I have searched for a link to the turbo version of the Bonanza but cannot find it any more. However, if you PM me with your e-mail address then I can let you have the necessary files. Peter McClelland originally made them free for the community in 2005 so I doubt he will mind if I let you have them. Cheers. Dijvid
  19. Hi Harald Many thanks for your reply. I have moved the KEYBOARD gauge to the VC section, as you suggested, and removed the 2D panel completely and everything works fine. This has also solved another problem I had. I could never adjust trim in the Throttles and Trim popup panel - I always had to do this in the VC itself. Now this works OK as well. Yes, the DF A36 is a really great aircraft and it's the only one I fly now. Its quality is excellent considering that DF released it in 2005. I have made a number of personal modifications to it and I also have the turbo version done by Peter McClelland. Now I can climb to FL200 at 1,000 fpm with no trouble at all - very good for flying over mountains! Of course, it cost me a fortune having to pressurise the aircraft and fit oxygen for the crew and pax!! Best wishes. Dijvid
  20. Thank you, vololiberista! I have been looking here - www.eurocontrol.int/articles/ais-online - which I found through Google and which is clearly not the same as the link you have given me. Anyway, your help is very much appreciated. Dijvid
  21. Many thanks for the link, Edetroit. The list of charts available is somewhat [very?] limited but nevertheless useful to have. Cheers. Dijvid
  22. Maybe you're right - I don't know. All I do know is that I have gone onto Eurocontrol's website and cannot find any way to free access of aerodrome charts and approach plates for France. Also, I don't seem to be able to find a place to register on Eurocontrol's website either. I have, however, found a couple of other websites giving a list of French airports/airfields and the charts available for them but when I try to access the charts they take me to a now redundant French SIA website with the 404 error. Do you have a link to register on Eurocontrol? If so then I'd be most grateful. Dijvid
  23. As I only fly with the VC I decided to remove the main 2D panel from the panel.cfg file by commenting out every line in the [Window00] section. However, this also removed every gauge from the VC. By trial and error I discovered that I must leave the following line active in the 2D panel in order to see the gauges in the VC: gauge12=dfa36ec!KEYBOARD, 1,1,1,1 Does anyone know what this gauge is and what it does? Many thanks for any ideas. Dijvid
  24. A couple of years ago I decided to "freeze" sim time to July 2014 by updating and synchronising my Navigraph data and aeronautical charts as of that date since downloading charts for the whole of Europe was a very time consuming exercise and I didn't want to keep on doing that. However, I recently needed to get some up to date aerodrome and approach charts for France and Germany only to find that their appropriate authorities no longer provide them free - you have to buy an annual subscription. Fortunately I was able to download charts for the whole of Europe two years ago completely free and this has turned out to be very fortuitous indeed - lucky me!! Has anyone else noticed this? Dijvid
