Bonanza 35 Possible Model Problem

Featured Replies

Need Help Please! I'm currently working on a project for a pilot friend of mine. He would like to see his plane in the sim. I was about 90% complete with the project when I installed it on his computer and he pointed out the fact that I had used the wrong model bonanza. I had used Mike Stone's excellant v-tail bonanza but I didn't notice that it was a six passenger model with the third elongated window on each side. My pilot friend has a 1957 V35 H model, four passenger.I came across a repaint of a Bonanza 35 on simviation.com, uploaded by Joseph H. Ward II, zip file SkyTaxiBeechcraftBonanza.zip. To this date, it's the only one I can seem to find on the web that is much closer to my pilot friends plane.Due to what seems to be a problem in the model, I have searched high and low on the web for the original base package that was done by Eric Dantès, but have had no luck in finding it. I don't know if the problem exists in the base model or if a fix was done for it either. I just can't seem to find anything more on it.I contacted Joseph via email but he just couldn't remember where he got the base model cause it was 3-4 years ago.I have also made an attempt to contact Eric, however his email is no longer valid and just bounced back to me.Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Maybe someone out the has this plane and it's in good shape without the problem that I have. I'll try to give as much info as possible to help someone see if they have this model. The Problem: When I go outside the plane in the spot plane view and pan to any angle from behind the bonanza, I notice what looks like a grey blank rectangle bitmap where the panel is and it sticks outside the plane a little on both sides. Not sure what this is. I renamed the texture folder so the plane would have no textures, just to see if it was a texture bitmap causing the problem, but, it was not. I now saw the whole plane grey with no textures and that grey rectangle was still there. Surely there is a fix out there for this. Not sure if its something in the model or what. I even dropped in my own panel and panel bitmaps that I'm going to use for my pilot friends plane and that didn't get rid of that problem either. Looks like it's something in the model, but not sure.Model Info: Name - "Bonanza A35.mdl" - Size - 775 KB - My listed Date Created - 4/10/2007 @ 5:16 PM.The description on simviation of what I downloaded and installed is shown below."FS2004 Beechcraft V35 Bonanza Sky Taxi Airways. 6.11Mb (734 downloads)FS2004 Beechcraft V35 Bonanza Sky Taxi Airways. The V tail Beechcraft Bonanza is an old plane from 1948, but this bird still operates reliably. Original by Eric Dantès. Repaint by Joseph H. Hi,Dont know the model or where you can download it, but that sounds like a texture transparancy problem you have there. If a texture is in a format that fs cant display you see a blank non-textured poly instead. Possibly it may be a texture saved as 24 bit instead of DXT3 or something similar. Hope this helps.Dave

Hello,Maybe you can try this one ....zipshow.php?DLID=60845&FileName=Beech_Bonanza_A35%2F20-degree.gif&CType=image%2Fgif

Category: Flight Simulator 2004 - Original AircraftBeechcraft Bonanza 35 ZipDive! DownloadFile Description:1948 Beechcraft " V-Tail " Bonanza 35. This model was created using FSDS 2.24. The plane is currently a beta version of what I hope will be a truly authentic representation of an early 35. I am looking for input and/or assistance to optain that goal. This version used standard MS gauges from the Vega and DC3 to keep it as close to period as possible. I alos used the Baron sound set for this version. Other features include animated flight control surfaces, landing gear and cowling flaps. Complete landing lights, nav lights and a animated VC. Currently no 2d cockpit. Enjoy.Filename: beech_bonanza_a35.zipLicense: FreewareAdded: 4th February 2005Downloads: 15558Author: John ReckerSize: 11900kb

Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply. If you notice what I put in my original post:Quote:The Problem: When I go outside the plane in the spot plane view and pan to any angle from behind the bonanza, I notice what looks like a grey blank rectangle bitmap where the panel is and it sticks outside the plane a little on both sides. End Quote.not even renaming the texture folder, to totally eliminate the textures, solved the problem. But, I did try your suggestion and formatted them all in DXT3 format. As I thought, this did not solve the problem either. But thanks a lot for trying to help me. :)Now on to Gus,Thanks a million Gus....Success. The model you pointed me to by John Recker does not have the problem in it.One thing I did notice though. Other than the paint job, this model by Recker is identical to the one I downloaded who's authors name is Eric Dantès. Not sure if this is the same person with two different alias screen names or if one of these authors took the model, in fact, the whole package from the other, and is claiming they are the author.I sure hope this is not the case. I'm a developer myself and it would be very disappointing to find out this was going on. Way too much time goes into everything developers have to go through to come up with a finished product which is more than not, free to all. Thanks again Gus! I'm going to use this model to complete my project. I hope my pilot friend is pleased with this one.Sincerely,Michael ChaceNew Mexico, [email protected]

Hi Michael,Well I dont have any other ideas I'm afraid, but removing the texture file wont stop fs drawing the polygons! I'm quesing there's a polygon being drawn thats larger than what needs to be seen. If its the panel, there'd be a texture with the picture of the panel on it. The texture "mask" would hide the edges. If this is the problem, then just resaving the texture to dxt alone wont solve it. It must also contain the texture "mask". the app dxtbmp has an option to create "Alpha mask from black" or other colours. you'd need to do this before saving. Incidentally, saving in compressed formats is a lossy techniq, so try and use an original bmp each time else the result will become more and more blurry.Dave

Problem solved.....Thank You Dave & Gus for your assistance.Over the weekend I determined exactly what the problem was.The model has a VC panel defined in it...Therefore the grey blank block at the panel. However, so you won't see the grey blank block, you must have the virtual cocpit windows defined in the panel.cfg file so the textures can be applied to that VC panel. When I put my panel for my pilot friend in, I had no VC windows defined. He & I never use the VC windows because we prefer flying with the main panel and mini panel. By not having the VC windows in my panel.cfg file, the VC panel defined in the model had no texture to put on it.Just thought I would post this reply to finish off this forum and let everyone know about this type of problem and why this became a problem and the solution.Thank again,Michael Chace

Hello,Just came across your post about my A35 and it's resemblance to another developer. Not sure who Eric is and couldn't find his version to compare to. Would be interested in seeing it if some one could send me a link. I still have the original files for 2005 if anybody is interested in taking them and developing the model further. They are done in FSDS 2.4.ThanksJohn R.
