October 1, 200322 yr Talk about excitement. A few moments ago I looked out my west facing living room window and there was Concorde at about 3000 ft, gear down, on final for CYYZ Rwy 23. It's her last trip to Toronto, Canada and what a lovely site she was.Bye for ever. I wonder what will replace her.bf
October 1, 200322 yr Well how about this plane by Shigeru Tanaka? Haha. I don't know what will replace it in real life. I'll bet the Concorde was a heck of a ride. Wish I could have experienced it.JimHello Tower, I need clearance Clarence. Roger Victor what's your vector?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/40410.jpg
October 1, 200322 yr She is a majestic sight I agree..feels odd that we`ll not see her flying again soon. What will replace her..its a topic on its own. However,(think it was USAF/NASA) did a test with a modified fighter jet a short while ago. They modified the nose of the aircraft and made it look like a pelicans beak (not literally...)Results were very good,it crossed over land at mach 1 +,and the recordings on the ground showed a noise print about 75% of a modern day sub sonic airliner. The dream lives on :-jumpy
October 1, 200322 yr Well, I live about 30 miles from Heathrow directly under the flightpath for all routes west. I get Concorde several times a day and can't wait for the end of this month when I will no longer be subjected to it's horrendous noise and pollution.David
October 1, 200322 yr Why...why do people that live near an airport complain?...it is far easier to move isn't it?we've got the same thing here in holland, and there are very few people who can say the airport came after they moved there.if the noise is bothering you that bad->move out!just my opinion, probably colored by the ongoing blahblah about schiphol(which disgusts me no end),but really, get out of there if the noise's to much!
October 1, 200322 yr He said he lives 30 miles away from the airport. That's not close in my opinion. Heck, I live closer to KSEA than that...probably 10 miles and rarely hear anything...
October 1, 200322 yr So move house. You were living there before EGLL? Before Concorde?Paulhttp://www.strontiumdog.plus.com/sbird.jpgOfficially licenced by British Airways plc for use of name and logo[p]AMD XP2800+ Barton, Gigabyte GA-7NNXP nForce2, 1Gig Crucial PC3200 DDR 400MHz, Gainward 128 MB GF4-4200, SB Audigy, 3 x WD Caviar SE[/p]
October 1, 200322 yr well..concorde is a thing on its own, regarding noise.i myself live 7 km from leeuwarden airbase, and you won't hear me complain,as1:i knew it was there, and also knew there was noise.2:i think it's not that bad actually, they only fly three out of 7 days,so what?3:it is still better as Zwanenburg ;-)now,i used to live in Zwanenburg, right under schiphols 19r/01l app/dep,and i must say i liked it(ofcourse,i love planes,so i'm not objective at ALL)...it kept me awake sometimes, but, knowing that you are (going) to live near an airport,i regard people complaining about noise afterwards as people lacking the necessary deducing skills,a la 1+1=2,aka Airport+me=noise problems,so i'll not go live there!i am somewhat proud to be somebody not complaining about this stuff, although i've had,and still have,my share of noise->it is the inevitable outcome of the thing we call progress, more people can afford to travel by plane, hence more planes, hence more noise, hence more complainers,ad infinitum.
October 1, 200322 yr I'm planning on being at the terminal 1 parking garage tomorrow to see the Concorde leave YYZ at 6:00PM. If I happen to catch any good shots I will post them.
October 2, 200322 yr well indeed,Concorde is a masterpiece of engineering...however,you can't keep em flying for ever...i'm just hoping they'll build a replacement...one can hope right?;-)
October 2, 200322 yr I would believe it Andrew. I only have to think about the old duffers next door to us complaining about the noise my 5 & 7 year olds make in our garden to appreciate what you're saying.Engineering masterpiece?! Damn right! The complainers: please go about you everyday small lives, and be happy knowing that only you matter.Cheers,Paulhttp://www.strontiumdog.plus.com/sbird.jpgOfficially licenced by British Airways plc for use of name and logo[p]AMD XP2800+ Barton, Gigabyte GA-7NNXP nForce2, 1Gig Crucial PC3200 DDR 400MHz, Gainward 128 MB GF4-4200, SB Audigy, 3 x WD Caviar SE[/p]
