October 2, 200322 yr Hi:).Actually I Know that it is possible to use 2 CPUs simultaneously in a pc with dual CPU support motherboards but is it possible to use two different CPU I mean two different CPUs with two different speeds. I ask this because I have an old but lovely 1.1GH Intel Pentium 3 CPU and I don
October 2, 200322 yr No. Much like ram, cpu's have to be matched. You can even have trouble with 2 same speed cpus if different revisions.Besides youre talking about mixing a P3 with a P4. You aint gonna find a board that would let you try.Let go of the 1.1, they must be $50 by now.Speed.
October 2, 200322 yr I don't believe that there are any dual boards for P4 or P3 there are however for Dual Xeon Processor, but that's something else don't even know what very expensive guess some networking CPU..and like he said you can't mix'em p4 with p3Andy
October 2, 200322 yr I bought a dual cpu xeon server for a client and they are very expensive. I've been very tempted to run FS9 on it but it wouldn't be fair to my client.Speed.
October 2, 200322 yr Even if the machine had 4 CPU's, FS9 wouldn't run faster....The software (i.e. FS9) running on multiple CPU machines also must be specifically designed/compiled to use the other CPU's. Unfortunately FS9 doesn't support this.. October 2, 200322 yr I'm a little confused by the screenshots FPSFREAK showed on this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchHe said that both cpu's were working once he switched on hyperthreading in the bios. But maybe he meant that the same cpu was acting as 2 cpus.Speed.
October 2, 200322 yr yea hyper threading makes 2 cpus act as oneu could use 2 computers to run fs..??once to display outside views.. the other with another monitor to display the cockpit/guages
October 2, 200322 yr Actually it's the opposite. HT makes 1 processor act like 2 processors. To quote the intel site:"...work more efficiently by maximizing processor resources and enabling a single processor to run two separate threads of software simultaneously."Speed.
