ATI Confusion.......

Featured Replies

Hello simmers:I currently have a Radeon 9000 PRO 64MB and want to upgrade. I have searched the archives and the ATI web site for answers to the following questions, but can not find any clarification. I hope someone can shed some light on the various stated terminology.1. What does "All In Wonder" refer to vs "Radeon"? Most cards with the "All In Wonder" designation are much higher in price with similar specs of non designated cards.2. What does the "PRO" designation mean? Again, difference in pricing vs a non "PRO" card with similar specs. 3. With specs like: Radeon 9000 PRO 128MB. Yet in the general info section, it says 64MB of memory. Which is it?Thanks.Chris

All in Wonder card comes with a TV and a bunch of other neat stuff that you don't need for gaming. The Pro cards are faster than the NP cards. Basically the line up goes something like this (someone correct me if I misquote something):In the order of performance:9000/9100/9200 Budget DX8 Cards 64/128mb vram 4 pipelinesFull DX9 Cards9500NP/9500 Pro 128bit memory 128mb vram 4 pipelines9600NP/9600 Pro 128bit memory 128/256mb vram 4 pipelines9600XT/9600XT Pro 128bit memory 128/256 vram 4 pipelines9700NP/9700 Pro 256bit memory 128mb vram 8 pipelines9800NP/9800 Pro 256bit memory 128/256mb vram 8 pipelines9800XT/9800XT Pro 256bit memory 256mb vram 8 pipelines

Chris,1) The All-in-Wonder designation refers to having built-in tv tuner. The card has a 75ohm atenna input (f-connector).2) I believe the PRO designation refers mostly to a faster clock speed, both core and memory. The only reason I believe this is that I saw advertised that with an overclocking utility, I could turn a 9800 in to a 9800 PRO.3) Sorry, don't know but if it's advertised as a 128, it probably has 128. I would find the retail box and study it carefully.Good luck,sj
