popping scenery

Featured Replies

I'm trying to figure out whats best to tweak here to improve this scenario. I'm using fsgenesis scenery and am running a P4 3ghz, 1gb ram, 9800 pro 128MB video card w/ 3.8 drivers.I'll be flying and as I look at say mountains, the landscape kind of POPS into place. The shape of mountains POP into shape. I know its just scenery, but heck, I would think with the system I am running on at this time that MSFS2004 would run run nearly perfect. What is this thats happening? Whats it called? What can I tweak to try and get rid of it? Would I have better luck with my video card if it was a 256MB version vs a 128MB version? Any suggestions to this? Is it like this for everyone? Do I need to just turn my settings down? I tried to build something for MSFS that had some pretty powerful hardware at the time and it seems to not be enough! Go figure.. hehe.. Thanks everyone!

bumping

Two things. Make sure you're running your terrain mesh at least 90 Percent. Second, in your fs9 cfg file under the display section, you'll find a bandwidth_mult= . Probably defaulted to something like =40. Increase it. I run mine at =400.

I have left mine at 60 to try and see if that helps performance. I'll try it.

HI,You'll never get rid of it completely. That's just the way the terrain engine works. The "popping" is the higher-resolution terrain loading for display. Terrain has a certain display range, depending on its level of detail. Higher resolutions have shorter display ranges. This is mostly for performance reasons. The further right you bump your Terrain Complexity slider the less you'll notice it, but it will always be there, even if you bump it to 100. 90 is about right for my preferences. Also, the other tweak mentioned esewhere in this thread (Bandwidth_mult) may help.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x
