November 9, 201015 yr I've got a 10-year-old PC, a P5 1.4. It's a large desktop - actually a big tower. I use it mostly for home office things and web surfing. Recently, I re-installed FS2002 and I just got a copy of FS9 for it last night. They run fine without a lot of add-ons, and some freeware scenery I put on didn't seem to hurt the frame rates. I'm not trying to duplicate the real world, so this is OK with me.But, the MOB has started to act up. I have a lot of trouble restarting after a power failure. I realize that this situation can't go on forever, so I'm thinking about a replacement. My wife supports this, "because the old one is noisy." OK, it needs a fan replacement. If it weren't for Flight Sim, I'd just get a laptop and a docking station (I hate laptop keyboards) and be done with it. But, even when I got the current machine, my CH gameport yoke and pedals were an issue. I ended up buying a video board with a built-in gameport. I'm not sure I can do that again. So, after all this time, is there even an option for the gameport devices?
November 10, 201015 yr Make sure you hang on to the noisy fan for when you need approval from the Budget Office to replace your new computer! ;-)(Alternatively you could record the fan noise and loop it for constant playback, but might not be as effective and detection would likely trigger budget cutbacks...)Regarding your GamePort needs, contact CH Products Tech Support for advice. If you're comfortable with low-tech electronics, perhaps you could convince them to sell you a replacement printed-circuit board and cable and just convert your GamePort gear to USB? Just an idea...Another option would be the Manhattan Usb Game Port Adapter, with Amazon customer "Joe88" reporting: I was looking for a converter for my CH Flight Pro which used an old DB-15 plug, and well is no longer used anymore. I saw this, and was a little pricey bot ordered it and it works great. It converted the joystick to USB and Vista detected it and installed drivers and was up and running in no time. It has a switch on it to configure for four different joysticks makers and different axis and such. It has a good build quality and over has a clean look and doesnt look cheap.Amazon doesn't seen to stock the converter anymore, but you can get it for $14 - $25 from here, here and here.Cheers,- jahman.
