November 12, 201015 yr Hi guys.Recently my MBO died so now I'm in process of rebuildiong new configuration.Previously I had WinXp 64bit and all addons worked OK (PMDG, iFly, Feelthere, Wilco ....DA Fokker)Should I expect problems with W7 64bit and aircraft/scenery addons. Thanks in advanceEdin
November 12, 201015 yr Same setup here. FS2004 with Windows 7 64 bit. Some add-ons (planes/scenery) have needed to ask ME where the FS2004 installation is. It is in it's own default location in the c:/Program Files(x86)/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator/ (that's a different default location then FS2004 under 32-bit versions of Windows) I have just such an issue right now the past 2 days and have posted on flightsim and will do here too. My BirdsEyeView scenery claims I do NOT have any FS2004 installation and refuses to run it's own configurator application (no FS2004 it 'thinks') and exits. Can't USE my new purchased BirdsEyeView product. I think they are out-of-business as the website is no more....SO..to ANSWER your query..you should expect some add-ons to need to ask you where FS2004 is.....my issue with BEV is the first FS2004 add-on, for me , that flat refuses to run after it tells me it installed succwessfully and to then double-click the BEV Configurator II desktop icon. Bloody queer you'd have a similar post as i arrived here this morning to post my similar question.Lastly I saved over $3k-$6K by switching from FSX to FS2004 and NOT having to build a new PC just to FLY!!! My cheap new laptop (ACER 5534 / WalMart $348) runs FS2004 so sweet and smooth with on-board graphics (HD3200) and - A L L - (yes all, sun glare, lens glare, texture rendering, every damn control (just to be very CLEAR!!) FS2004 sliders maxed out...my screen is 1366x768 using trilinear with AA filtering and auto-gen, everything is MAXED..what a treat.. I get silky-smooth flying around NYC and 30fps in my WACO 10 biplane!! <- ONE COOL BIRD! I do have my Windows 7 64-bit and FS2004 on a 64G Kingston SSD) I only mention it since I will eventually upgrade to get similar flying experiences with FSX BUT I am also waiting to see what evolves with the new Microsoft Flight 'thingie' browser-based whatever before i plonk down for my i7 Extreme cpu.....sli/crossfire graphics....1500w psu...etc..etc..etc.I think a native 64-bit flight sim is what we ALL need in 2010 and beyond. Seems like a no-brainer with all the data processing / number crunching involved...
