October 20, 200322 yr Hey,I turn to you experts after 3 days of desperate attempts to get my FS9 starting up corectly after updating from WinME to WinXP.This is the problem: After doubleclicking on the FS9 icon I can see/hear my CDrom starts to read the FS9 CD#4 in my cd-drive, then I can hear my prossesor working for about 3 seconds and then it all stops. I can wait for ever but nothing more happens...I sill see my desktop, not even the FS9 startup screen, the mouse is still moveble but there is no response when trying to for-example open the START menu, and the computer deosn't react on CTRL-ALT-DEl. After desperately moving the mouse around for some time the the mouse locks up too,and I have to shut down the computer manually, by pusshing the power botton. I only manage to access FS9 via the "FS9 Safe Mode". And when I Exit the "FS9 Safe Mode", it seems that FS9 fom time to time stays in the windowed mode it starts in in the "FS9 Safe Mode", and when I press the FS9 icon it actually starts in one out of 5, but then windowed.I did not have this problem in WinME which I dumped 4 days ago. I have tried re-installing FS many times but it doesn't help. I have tried the "no_cd" file but that doesn't help either...I have also tried adding additional tweaks the the FS9.cfg fiund here on this forum, but with no effect.Do any of you know what the problem might be?This is my System:Dell Dimension 8100P4 1.5GhzWinFast GForce4 ti4200(with newest drivers)512MB DDR RAMWinMERegardsThomas
October 21, 200322 yr Hi Thomas, did you install xp over ME? or did you reformat your hard drive first? I think I might just completely reinstall xp. Also, could there be something wrong with your FS9 disc? A silly question, do you have the correct CD?dek
October 21, 200322 yr Hey Dek,Thx for replay,Yes I have the original FS9 cd #4 in the cd-drive....I reformated my harddrive prior to the instalation of Win XP....Somebody help me, please..../Thomas
October 21, 200322 yr Author If all you did was to install the default WinXP from its CD, then your problem is not installing updated drivers for your MOBO controller chips, graphics adapter, sound, etc. You also need to download and install the WinXP updates from Microsoft's Update Website. Proceed in this order:1. Download and install the MOBO controller chip drivers, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi. Open device manager, open System Devices, and search for one of the vendors listed. Generally, if you have Intel Pentium, you will have Intel chips; if you have AMD XP CPU, you will have VIA chips. Note, there are certainly variations. If you can't find what chips you have, then search the MOBOs manufacturers website or the computer vendors website.2. Download and install WinXP updated drivers3. Download and install updated graphics adapter drivers.4. Download and install updated drivers for all other peripherals.5. Run DirectX9.0b diagnostics texts, Press Start, Run..., type dxdiag, OK. Let it stabilize, then check each tab, especially the display tab. Ensure the DirectDraw, Direct3d, and AGP accelerators are enabled.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
