November 29, 201015 yr HiI see quite a few "collisions" between AI aircraft on the ground i.e. crossing through each other while taxiing etc. While it is quite amusing, it might be even more amusing if this behaviour were rendered more accurately if accompanied by a huge explosion and a giant ball of flames Does anyone know if such a thing exists as an add-on?Del
November 29, 201015 yr There are one or two explosion add-ons for FS (I think mostly for FS9 though), but they are geared toward enhancing the crash effects of your own aeroplane should you come upon such a misfortune. Here's one: http://secure.simmarket.com/g.bovee-crashbak-pro-w-crashfx.phtmlSeems a bit bizarre to me that anyone would want to deliberately crash their own plane just to see an explosion, unless they were after doing some sort of movie, but I guess it takes all sorts. In any case, I don't think the above would play on AI aircraft, so probably not what you had in mind.Short of that, if you wanted to do something on a replay with video editing and CGI in something like Adobe After Effects, then that would indeed be possible to make AI aircraft look like they were on fire or exploding if you were careful to edit things. If that's what you are after, then you can get chromakeyed explosions (i.e. they have an alpha channel that makes the footage transparent apart from the effect so it can be overlaid onto footage) to use for that kind of effect from here: http://www.detonationfilms.com/You can do some clever stuff in After Effects using such chromakeyed effects footage, for example, here is one where I edited some footage of me waving a prop AK-47 to make it look as though it was firing (the gun is actually an inert plastic movie prop and doesn't fire anything at all), all the ejecting shell cases, muzzle flashes on the wall etc are done with post-processing effects that are motion-tracked to the gun's movements: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1z5lOYKWo8It would certainly be possible to crash an aeroplane in FS, FRAPS the footage of a replay and then CGI in a fireball effect onto the recorded footage with something like After Effects in a manner similar to that AK footage. You can download a thirty day trial version of After Effects from Adobe.com if you want to try that out, although the current CS5 version of After Effects will only install on a 64 bit operating system, so if you have a 32 bit operating system, you would need either the CS4 or earlier version of After Effects.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
