October 22, 200322 yr Hi folks,I spent a while last night fitting Nicks Jet Smoke to Posky's 743. Had done so already for IFDG's 767 and FFX's 727. A real pain in the bu** if you want to set it right where it should be.I was thinking, I could share the numbers for each of these aircraft if anyone is interested. Furthermore, it would be great if people who have already configured the smoke effects for other aircraft also provided their numbers. It would save everybody a load of work.On another note, I also spent some time manually setting the position and size parameters for the ND and PFD gauges of Chris Alevritis' 744 panel (no cfg editor). Now they fit perfectly and I ended up with much bigger gauges than Chris originally intended. Another load of work. I could share those too if the interest arises.Cheers.Mauricio
October 22, 200322 yr Well, Mauricio, I'm sure that there are lots of folk like me, who more than greatly appreciate the hard work of people like you. I love the flight sim, but am just useless when it comes to the inner workings of the thing. I have to be up at 3.00am for work each day, so by the time I get round to a bit of flying, I'm a little tired, to say the least. It's just taken me at least 4 sessions to put the panel and new afterburner affects in the ViperF16. And I'm still not sure whether they're right ( yes, you may well laugh )Truth is, I'm totally fazed by all these xml's,dll's and such. My respect for you guys in the know is total. Any help is greatly appreciated.Russell.
October 23, 200322 yr If you could make me a very basic panel for the PAI aircraft so I could get the smoke working on them I'd pay ya :) Seems it won't work without a panel because a guage actually runs the smoke and all PAI aircraft don't have panels because they are just for AI and a full panel would just add unecessary resource drag.
October 23, 200322 yr Thanks for answering.First of all I am no guru. However I can pretty much find my way around aircraft and panel config files, a must if you want to take full advantage of the wonderfull freeware accessories so many great people have made available to us.Nick's smoke effects all come down to copying the effects files and the gauge into the corresponding folders within FS9 and then adding the gauge to your panel.cfg and tweaking the aircraft.cfg files to get the smoke trails to show where they should on each aircraft. I will post the config mods later on for these three aircraft.About the smoke effects on AI aircraft I suppose there must be a way to build a panel with only one gauge and the required panel and aircraft.cfg's to make it work. Never tried it though. I'll give it a whirl and get back to you. In the meantime if anyone else has any experience adding smoke effects to AI aircraft, we would love to hear from you.Mauricio
October 24, 200322 yr Ok here it goes:To setup Nicks jet smoke for each of the following aircraft you must first copy the effects files named fx_nicksmokeXXX (where XXX is the type of a/c) into your FS9 effects folder. These files are included in the appropiate installer inside "njs_final.zip". Then you must modify the panel.cfg of the specific aircraft by adding at the end of the section the following line:gauge**=nn-gauges!NickSmokeFXControl2.xml, 0,0 (replace ** with the next gauge number)Finally you must open the aircraft.cfg file for the each plane, and replace the section with one of the following (replace <> with square brackets):POSKY 747-300//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing light.0= 8,-25.916667,-71.50,-2.60, fx_nicksmoke747 //Engine 1 thrust smokelight.1= 9, 3.916667,-41.17,-6.60, fx_nicksmoke747 //Engine 2 thrust smokelight.2= 6, 3.916667,41.17,-6.60, fx_nicksmoke747 //Engine 3 thrust smokelight.3= 7,-25.916667,71.50,-2.60, fx_nicksmoke747 //Engine 4 thrust smoke light.4=1, 65.200, 0.600, 19.100, Opensky_beacon ,light.5=1, 13.500, 0.000, -7.080, Opensky_beacon ,light.6=2, -42.70, -95.200, 8.80, fx_strobeh ,light.7=2, -42.70, 95.200, 8.80, fx_strobeh ,light.8=3, -122.700, -0.250, 12.300, Opensky_nav_yellow ,light.9=3, -122.700, 0.250, 12.300, Opensky_nav_yellow ,light.10=2, -121.900, 0.000, 11.450, fx_strobeh ,light.11=3, 84.850, 0.000, 14.850, fx_vclighth FFX 727 //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landinglight.0=8, -45.714, -9.000, 5.157, fx_nicksmokeMD-727 //Engine 1 thrust smokelight.1=9, -65.143, 0.000, 5.257, fx_nicksmokeMD-727 //Engine 2 thrust smokelight.2=6, -45.714, 9.000, 5.157, fx_nicksmokeMD-727 //Engine 3 thrust smokelight.3= 3, -16.70, -55.50, 0.75, fx_navredm ,light.4= 3, -17.50, -55.85, 0.75, fx_navredm ,light.5= 2, -15.60, -55.45, 0.70, fx_strobeh ,light.6= 3, -23.90, -55.75, 0.55, MD80_INSPEC2 ,light.7= 3, -16.70, 55.50, 0.75, fx_navgrem ,light.8= 3, -17.50, 55.85, 0.75, fx_navgrem ,light.9= 2, -15.58, 55.45, 0.70, fx_strobeh ,light.10= 3, -23.90, 55.75, 0.55, MD80_INSPEC2 ,light.11= 3, -81.00, 0.00, 23.80, fx_navwhi ,light.12= 2, -81.00, 0.00, 23.80, fx_strobeh ,light.13= 5, 24.75, -6.55, 3.30, MD80_INSPEC2 ,light.14= 5, 24.75, 6.55, 3.30, MD80_INSPEC2 ,light.15= 4, 72.60, -1.80, 6.35, fx_vclight ,light.16= 4, 72.60, 1.80, 6.35, fx_vclight ,light.17= 5, 4.80, -40.00, 8.40, fx_fxwing2.fx ,light.18= 5, 4.80, 40.00, 8.40, fx_fxwing2.fx ,light.19= 1, 12.50, 0.00, -3.85, MD80_BCNL ,light.20= 1, 40.00, 0.00, 11.35, MD80_BCNU ,IFDG b763pwER[lights]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landinglight.0=8, 9, -26.5, -4.7, fx_nicksmokeMD-727 //Engine 1 thrust smokelight.1=9, 9, 26.5, -4.7, fx_nicksmokeMD-727 //Engine 2 thrust smokelight.2 = 1, 38.90, 0, 13.38, fx_beaconlight.3 = 1, 17.64, 0, -3.51, fx_beaconNow you are ready to enjoy well placed smoke contrails on each of these aircraft.
