Graphics Card Change

Featured Replies

Hi experts, Can you give me some advice as my knowledge is a bit limited once I get into Hardware stuff. I recently upgraded my Graphics Card to a ATI Radeon HD 4650 AGP 1Gb to improve FS9 performance and it does seem better. But I am getting conflicting views from friends of mine. They think It should be even better than it is. I can run the "Century of Flight" flights with sliders for weather, clouds traffic etc. at about 70% and 25- 27 frames per second. Once I switch on anti liasing, shadows etc. it slows down a bit but is still better than before. I have updated all the relevant drivers etc with no problems. So my questions are:1. I am told I should unistall the re-instal FS9 to get the new card to work best? Why?2. I am told it is not necessary, Graphics card will automatically improve performance.3. If I uninstall etc. Will I lose my saved flights or settings?4. Are there any other tips you can give me to get the best out of FS9. Thanks in anticipation ianmicker

Hello,

2. I am told it is not necessary, Graphics card will automatically improve performance.
I agree to some extend.Anyways it's some work in order:Uninstall properly your actual graphic drivers.Stop PC remove old card and install the new card.Restart PC and install the drivers for the new card.Make a copy of FS9.cfg and store in a safe place.Delete FS9.cfgStart FS2004 and a new FS9.cfg is created with the parameters of your new graphic card registered.Stop FS2004Now you can edit the new FS9.cfg and put your personnal modifications from the saved copy like the joystick settings .. etc ... (if you have made some customizations .. of course)
Are there any other tips you can give me to get the best out of FS9.Thanks in anticipation
Yes .. like the above advice ... the best CPU will improve significantly the FS2004 performances3.0 Ghz or up make a great differenceFor graphic card .. usually 512MB is enough with a recent card.Regards.bye.gifGus.

as already stated FS is a CPU bound game and a new and best graphics card will never result in 'significant improvement' in the game's performance.follow the already stated instructions to correctly install the GPU driver and rebuilding the FS9.cfg. you then need to 'tweek' in order to find the best combination for your computer.simply, want better FS performance get a faster CPU ... have 2.2GHz got a 3GHz. have a 3GHz get a 3.8GHz. have a 3.8GHz look into overclocking.--
