October 25, 200322 yr Hello all,English is not my native language. I have been wondering why it is called a "kneeboard". Is this term also used outside of the aviation world? AFAIK the pilots are not holding a board on their knees with the checklists etc. So why is it called a kneeboard"Thanks in advance!Nico
October 25, 200322 yr Although my answer to your question is not based on fact, I would assume that the term "knee-board" comes from pilots taking a small board and strapping it to their knee/thigh area to give them a steady, easily accessable area to write down anything that they would probably need during the duration of their flight. Also, next time you see a military pilot, note that on their knees, are two areas where they can write information down using a chinagraph pencil.I am sure someone can come up with an exact reason to why its called a kneeboard!RgdsAidihttp://www.vfr-flightcenter.com/avsim_sig.jpg
October 25, 200322 yr Aidi, your guess is correct. That's exactly the source of the name "kneeboard".Jaap Verduijn.
October 25, 200322 yr Yup, very similar to the one I use, right down to a timer attached to it. Never fly without it. A must have, expecially for IFR. My partner used to have a lap board, one that folded open and sat on his lap.Mine can detach from the knee strap, and then goes on to a mounting plate on the yoke, which makes reading the approach plate much easier.Ah, what can't you do with Velcro?! ;-)Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...RUM_LOUF_A2.jpg

October 25, 200322 yr Lou, out of curiousity, what airport do you usually fly out of and do you ever take people considering going for a PPL up on discovery flights?
