January 3, 201115 yr Hi everyoneI thought I'd replace my trusty ole AS6.5 with the latest and greatest ASE edition, and whilst I've found plenty of guides on how to set up FSX with ASE, there's not too much for FS9.I've followed the instructions (shame on me! :( ), and whilst the weather supplied looks great (with REX snapshots) I'm having a few dramas that I never had with AS6.5.Flying heavy iron at FL300+ I get nasty weather transisions that seem to 'flip-flop' for a couple of cycles, ie the clouds disappear and reappear quickly, the baro pressure jumps up and down, and using the map I might be in heavy cloud but the map shows clear. I'm using FS9.1, Win7 x64 and have a registered copy of FSUIPC. FS9 is in it's own directory (as is ASE), not the Program Files location. That said, ASE certainly shows great potential, but just doesn't seem to be quite as stable as AS6.5 (but then again, what is? :( )Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature. January 4, 201115 yr Hi,Please start with the default ASE settings and then set FSUIPC to default settings and weather settings off and then see what happens.

January 4, 201115 yr Hi,After months of unsuccessful trials and after some patches for me it always stayed the same. Sometimes sudden weather changes, totally unpredictable. You asked for an advice: Stay with ASV6.5. I returned and I have predictable weather conditions during my flights. If you are a non-US locale user, you even lost the integration with FSBuild (if you haven't detected this issue). For my personal experience it wasn't worth the investment at the moment.RgdsReinhard

Pity, because ASE has so much potential, and the UI and XGauge seem so good. Maybe they can graft ASV6.5's engine onto ASE? :( BTW, what's the FSBuild problem, I use it myself, but maybe I haven't been paying attention to the winds aloft column. Why's it only work in the US (I'm in Australia)?Jim, can you please confirm that HiFi are still testing ASE with FS9, because after reading the last 6 months of posts there's not a lot on FS9 mentions.Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature. January 4, 201115 yr Hi,1. Some non-English language users refuse to make a 1 second change to their language setting before using ASE/FSB and another 1 second change after using. You are already using English, so FSB will work just fine with ASE.2. Thousands of users are using ASE and FS9 everyday and the numbers continue to grow. ASE with SP1 installed worked very well with FS9. ASE with SP2 installed works even better with FS9. Remember that forums are a place where users post problems, not where they usually praise products, so don't draw any conclusions from a few posts.3. We continue to look at both sims equally both in testing and improvements.4. I would like to know what your General options are in ASE.
January 5, 201115 yr Author Hi JimMy options are :FS9 setSTARTUP AND GENERALPlay startup soundForce destination WX ZoneVoice ATIS/FlightwatchDOWNLOADSAustomatic, 30 minutesSUPPRESSIONUse Local Range SupressionSuppression Ceiling 6000ftLocal Suppression Range 100 milesAs an aside, once I started playing with FSUIPC with smoothing baro settings, things didn't seem to change in regard to my pressure problems. The RC4 controllers were getting very upset with my continued altitude infractions. Have reset FSUIPC at this time. FSUIPC 3.98a installed.Cheers, Chris I do not have a signature. January 5, 201115 yr BTW, what's the FSBuild problem, I use it myself, but maybe I haven't been paying attention to the winds aloft column. Why's it only work in the US (I'm in Australia)?Hi Sluggy,The problem isn't the fault of some users, which won't change their LOCALE everytime they use ASE, but one single programmer, who won't eliminate one "feature", which was introduced with the upgrade from ASV6.5 to ASA (continued to ASE), and which produces now a different file format, if you are not using the US LOCALE setting.See this thread (and there are some other threads): http://forum.avsim.net/topic/265141-asa-and-non-us-locales/page__view__findpost__p__1832835Some strange countries use the comma as their decimal seperator. Everything (including our PC keyboard) operates with this scheme. Everything - except ASE. It's a little bit like Asterix :(;-) So if you in Australia are using the same seperation symbols like Jim in US, there should be no problem. I have just switched within one second :( between Austria and Australia and you have luck. Although my small country is often mixed with your country by US people - in that case you are the lucky man. You use the same seperators and it should work as before. For you!RgdsReinhard
January 5, 201115 yr Author Hi ReinhardThanks for the explanation, seems I'm in the clear then. Are your kangaroos as big as ours? :( Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?

January 6, 201115 yr Author Hi JimI've changed to 200, only had time to do a short hop from LOWW to EHAM (damn crappy weather there tonight!) but things seemed to be better. I'll try to get a long flight across the pond in and report back. Thanks for your help so far, ASE looked great onroute and the XGauge looked correct in showing EHAM as somewhere you probably shouldn't go ATT.Cheers, SLuggy I do not have a signature.
