January 17, 201115 yr I'm happy to be the owner of this wonderful product, appreciate it!!! I never had a problem with it until trying to fly "as real as it gets". It's not a problem, actually, but an observation which I thought to report and get your feedback here.I'm using SkyVector.com & NavMonster.com to get my ground preparations for all my VFR flights. Apart from providing usual METAR and TAF data, the latter is also a very handy tool to know winds aloft along the route. I usually compare the results of wx reports from ASE with its real-life counterpart from NavMonster for a given period and time - METARs and TAFs are OK, no differences at all, but I've noticed that winds aloft at the same altitudes vary considerably. I'll not provide an example here since it'll take lots of space but you can check it for yourself by visiting NavMonster.com and scrolling down a bit to get Winds Aloft data and comparing it with ASE briefing. Now my questions:- Can anyone explain the reasons of such discrepancies?!? Do I need to do smth in ASE options?- Is there any way to make ASE winds aloft data sort of "compatible", in other words, identical with real-world data?Btw, I'm using ASE SP2 Build 642 and FSUIPC v4.645.My FSXOptions.cfg [Options]FSVersion = FSXDynamicRateofChangePercent = 50VATSIMDownloads = FalseAutomaticDownloadInterval = 15AutomaticDownloads = FalseCAVOKCloudGenerationPercent = 50NoDataCloudGenerationPercent = 50CirrusCloudGenerationPercent = 50MaximumCloudLayers = 5MinimumCloudTurbulencePercent = 0MaximumCloudTurbulencePercent = 100MinimumCloudIcingPercent = 0MaximumCloudIcingPercent = 100StratusCloudOccurrencePercent = 20MinimumVisibilitySM = 0MaximumVisibilitySM = 100MaximumUpperVisibilitySM = 60MaximumSurfaceWindSpeed = 100MinimumWindTurbulencePercent = 0MaximumWindTurbulencePercent = 100MinimumWindShearPercent = 0MaximumWindShearPercent = 50DisableWindsAloft = FalseWakeTurbulenceStrength = 50CreateVirtualStations = FalseEnhanceRouteCoverage = FalseDepictHurricanes = TrueEnableSkyScapeMode = FalseUseSkyScapeforStratus = FalseForceHighPriority = TrueUpdateRange = 500EnableWindSmoothing = FalseEnableVisibilityGraduation = FalseEnableFogLayerSimulation = TrueLocalSuppression = TrueSuppressionRange = 10StartupWave = FalseEnableDirectWindControl = FalseShowSimMessages = TrueSupressOnGround = FalseForceDestinationWeatherZone = TrueVoiceATIS = TrueThermalGenerationRatePercent = 50UpandDowndraftGenerationRatePercent = 50MaximumDowndraftRate = 300MaximumUpdraftThermalRate = 500DisableHazeLayer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = TrueDatFileOverwriteUserEdit = 0SuppressionCeiling = FSXDepictionMode = StandardPreventFSXCloudRedraws = FalsePreventTstormsWithCB = FalseGraduationCeiling = 5000 My FSUIPC4.ini [General]AileronSpikeRemoval=NoAllEngHotKey=78,9AutoClearWeather=YesAutoTaxiWind=NoAutoTuneADF=NoAxisCalibration=NoAxisIntercepts=NoBlankDisplays=NoBrakeReleaseThreshold=75CentredDialogue=YesClearWeatherDynamics=NoClockSync=YesClockSyncMins=5CloudIcing=NoCloudTurbulence=NoConsole=NoCustomWeatherModify=NoDirectAxesToCalibs=YesDisconnTrimForAP=NoDontResetAxes=NoElevatorSpikeRemoval=NoExtendMetarMaxVis=NoExternalOptionControl=YesFixControlAccel=NoFixMachSpeedBug=YesGenerateCirrus=NoGetNearestAirports=YesGraduatedVisibility=NoHistory=8S7JWQ0178OVZWJMCQI3UJoystickTimeout=20LoadFlightMenu=NoLoadPlanMenu=NoLowerVisAltitude=0LuaRerunDelay=66MagicBattery=20MaxIce=3MaximumVisibility=0MaximumVisibilityFewClouds=0MaximumVisibilityOvercast=0MaximumVisibilityRainy=0MaxSurfaceWind=0MinIce=-1MinimumVisibility=0MouseWheelTrim=NoMouseWheelTrimSpeed=1NavFreq50KHz=YesOneCloudLayer=NoOwnWeatherChanges=NoPauseAfterCrash=YesPollGFTQ6=YesPressureSmoothness=0PropTaxiWind=NoRemoveATC=YesReversedElevatorTrim=NoRudderSpikeRemoval=NoSaveDataWithFlights=NoSetVisUpperAlt=NoShortAircraftNameOk=YesShowMultilineWindow=YesShowPMcontrols=NoSimConnectStallTime=1SmoothBySimTime=NoSmoothIAS=YesSpoilerIncrement=512SuppressAllGusts=NoSuppressCloudTurbulence=NoSuppressMultilineFS=NoSuppressSingleline=NoSuppressWindTurbulence=NoSuppressWindVariance=NoTCASid=FlightTCASrange=40TemperatureSmoothness=0ThrottleSyncAll=YesThrottleSyncToggle=77,9TimeForSelect=4//TurbulenceDivisor=20,20,40,40//TurbulenceRate=1.0,5.0TurbulenceDivisor=40,40,80,80TurbulenceRate=0.5,2.5UpdatedByVersion=4645UpperVisAltitude=0UpperVisibility=0UpperWindGusts=NoUseASEweather=YesUseProfiles=YesVisibilityOptions=NoVisUpperAltLimit=0WeatherReadFactor=2WeatherRewriteSeconds=1WhiteMessages=NoWindAjustAltitude=NoWindAjustAltitudeBy=2000WindDiscardLevel=400WindLimitLevel=200WindSmoothAirborneOnly=YesWindSmoothing=NoWindSmoothness=2WindTurbulence=NoZapSound=fireworkZeroElevForAPAlt=No Thank you very much in advance!Vüqar Regards,Victor Quebec
January 17, 201115 yr Hi,ASE does get it's data from real world sources. How do they match up with this data:weather.uwyo.edu/upperair/sounding.htmlAutomatic downloads is turned off so that means you are not getting up to the date weather in AS. I might suggest that is why your data does not match up.Create virtual stations and enhance route coverage should be on also.
January 17, 201115 yr Author Thank you, Jim! Automatic downloads is turned off so that means you are not getting up to the date weather in AS. I might suggest that is why your data does not match up.Yes, but what's the difference between online updates and contents of historical wx-reports. I mean don't historical downloads contain real-world data either?!?Create virtual stations and enhance route coverage should be on also.Wilco! I was just thinking that smth "virtual" will, on the contrary, make wx-reports unrealistic. But I'll try your suggestion too. Regards,Victor Quebec
January 18, 201115 yr Hi,Yes, historical files have the real world data, but are you comparing to current data or data that matches the time and date of your historical file? Also remember that the archived time is one hour offset, for example 22Z weather is archived and time stamped as 23Z.
