Platinum Airways Flies the Fjords

Featured Replies

Platinum Airways, the very Open Skies virtual airline, is planning yet another special series of Destination of the Week missions. Following its successful Conquest of the Snowy Mountains, the DOTW section will feature five unique destinations: Flying the Fjords, with missions taking its pilots to Norway, the Far Oer Islands, Iceland, Greenland and Alaska. Destination of the Week (DOTW) has acquired a strong tradition with Platinum Airways (www.platinumairways.org) of offering interesting missions. In January this year, DOTW visited some of the most challenging mountain airports in the Northern hemisphere. As the Conquest of the Snowy Mountains proved very successful, Platinum Airways is revisiting the concept of a thematic DOTW series. The second set of destinations that share a common characteristic focuses on airports that are located in fjords. Flying the Fjords will visit some treasures that are hidden deep in FS9 and FSX. The series starts at Molde (ENML) in South Western Norway. Other airports in this series include: Ísafjörður (BIIS) in Iceland, Narsarsuaq (BGBW) in Greenland, Vágar (EKVG) in the Faroe Islands and Juneau (PAJN) in Alaska. Some of these airports have very challenging approaches, often involving sharp turns on final. They all share wonderful scenery, especially in Winter, with snow all around. All missions are well documented, with a historical background of the visited town and airport, full charts, links to addon files and embedded video footage. Platinum Airways differentiates itself from other virtual airlines by offering a unique combination of liberated airways through an Open Skies policy and by offering a strong hub network, consisting of five strategically located airports around the globe. Platinum Airways pilots can fly any mission of their choice with the aircraft of their choice at the time of their choice, thus putting the fun back into flight simming.
