February 9, 201115 yr Hi all,I am not a computer techie, in fact, I'm pretty dumb when it comes to computers, but I was wondering if someone like me can install a cooling system on my CPU or if I have to pay someone $50 an hour for labour to do it.If I can do this myself, what is the easiest and cost effective cooling system I can purchase for my i5? I'd like to bump it up from 3.3 ghz to 4.0. Thanks!
February 12, 201115 yr G'day mate,Luckily for us, there are quite a few good models of CPU cooling kits available these days. Personally, I use CoolIT Systems' Domino A.L.C. - A pre-assembled liquid cooling kit. It was reasonably easy to install and it cools my CPU adequately for my OC needs. Although, if I were to buy a new one now, I'd propbaby go for one of their newer models. Corsair also have a model or two that have had some good reviews. Most good models will suit your needs, but do a little homework before you buy. (Maybe you would be better off with a "traditional" aftermarket fan based air-cooling system, like those from Noctua.) Just don't buy the most expensive - they rarely perform in proportion to their price.Cheers, i5 760 @ 4.1GHz on P7P55D-E Pro | 4x 2GB G.Skill RipJaws DDR3-1600 | 2x WD SE16 Caviar SATAII | Gainward GTX460 2GB GS | ThermalTake ToughPower 750W | LG 32LG50FD @ 1920x1080x32 | Windows 7 HP x64 | FSX Deluxe + Acceleration | FTX AU SP3 | FTX NA Blue PNW | REX2 | JF TrafficX | TrackIR
