February 22, 201115 yr Hi GuysI have pretty much put together my Sandy Bridge build, Asus Evo + 2500K + GTX570. I happen to have some credit remaining at MicroDirect and thought I would swap out my old GSkill 2 x 2GB Ram Sticks (Cas 8) for 2 X 8GB sticks as a long term plan. There are a couple of Corsair Kits but would it be better to go with higher frequency and higher latency or lower frequency and lower latency, the three I was looking at are,Corsair Memory DDR3 2000MHz 8GB kit of 2x 4GB CL9 (1.65V)Corsair Vengeance Performance Memory Module 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL9 (1.5V)Corsair Vengeance Performance Memory Module 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL8 (1.5V)They are all about the same price £110.00.Any suggestions really appreciated.......ThanksHamish
February 22, 201115 yr I have the Corsair DDR3 2000MHz CL9 2x4GB kit and really like it. I haven't been able to overclock it at all as my mobo seems very finicky with memory overclocking... Keep in mind that with Sandy Bridge, 2000MHz memory will have to be run at either 1866 or 2133MHz as there is no 20.00 memory multiplier. Currently running mine at 1866, stock timings, and 1.54v.Anyway, I would recommend either of the first two sets. Just decide which one you like better in terms of looks and price. Also consider that the Vengeance series may cause issues if you have a huge air cooler that overhangs the memory modules. February 22, 201115 yr Author Thanks for that.. so basically its not better to go for 1600 and lower latency... I thought that a lot of people here were saying that lower timings were better. I am using an H70 cooler so no probs there... It looks like the 1866Mhz is the best bet then....ThanksH.
February 22, 201115 yr Honestly, I don't think anybody knows for sure which memory is best. Lots of people do recommend 1600, but only with CL7 or CL6. It doesn't really make a huge difference anyway - but I know for FSX we'll take every small increase we can get. While you do want low latency, you also need high frequency - you need a good combination of the two. If I could get a 2x4GB kit of 2133MHz memory with CL9, that would probably be optimal, but those don't seem to exist in 2x4GB kits. Go check out this article at Bit-Tech: The Best Memory for Sandy Bridge. It's an excellent article if you're having trouble deciding on memory. February 26, 201115 yr I have option #3. Seems to get along real well with my Asus Deluxe. I run 1600 8-8-8-24-1t.
