Word Not Allowed,Even with XP? I really haven't had memory problems (until I got ASV6.5 weather which really slows the system down) on XP. Are you saying a 64 bit OS, XP Pro or Win 7.0, is the way to go? How much memory? This has interested me. FS9 cannot use more than 2GB right? What about FSX? How much can that use?Daniel
I think most has been already answered above my post.Yes, even with XP. Doesn't matter which OS, if you use a 32bit one, you limit your app to basically use 2GB for itself. This does NOT mean RAM.You can cheat that, and give it 3GB under 32bit OS.Under 64bit OS, you can give an app 4GB for itself. Still, NOT RAM.More you load into FS, more memory will it need "for itself". NOT RAM.Best would be, currently, Win 7 x64. But you could still go XP Pro x64, which was a great OS for me. Depending on your needs.Optimal memory would be 6GB, while you should at least have 4GB for your system and FS9.FS9 can use up to 4GB of a working memory if made large address aware under 64bit OS.FSX can natively use 4GB under 64bit OS.And to clarify: RAM is not application working memory. See it like this: RAM is a container for everything else, an app uses its working space (here normally called virtual space), and this is usually placed into RAM. If you don't have enough, things are going to get paged (written) onto disk, to a so called page file. To avoid, get enough RAM and turn off page file - a BIG performance boost. In 64bit OS, since app can use 4GB, optimal would be 6GB or 8GB of RAM, depending on your channel configuration.Hope that clarifies it.
