Favorite Routes?

Recommended Posts

After reading the High Altitude Takeoff thread just a moment ago, I quickly asked myself this question and posted this hoping for an answer:What are yalls favorites legs to fly? And why so?From difficult SID/STAR procedures, tough landings themselves, airport locales, enroute sceneries and challenges, VATSIM controllers always online etc. what is one of your favorite routes and what factors make it so?The diversity of experience on this forum for FSX is unparalleled. My impression is that this forum has so many people which have got some gems they fly all the time for certain reasons but simply haven't discussed them on this board. Thanks for all replies - really hope to hear from you guysWilliamWilliam D. I don't know if Bueller is into flightsimming (he might be, but I would advise more than just one day off ;-)).Anyhow, I know the feeling. For years I used to fly into and out off EHAM all the time, because that's where I live (nice scenery though at http://www.nl-2000.com/nuke/). Some time ago I started on a flight around the world project with short-haul legs (no more than 1000nm, preferably 500-750nm). Part of the fun was planning (http://www.gcmap.com/ and http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/) and searching for charts and scenery. All flights of course with real weather. Allready I made two world-trips and it is highly addicting. Here are a few of my favourites.TNCM, St Maarten (especially with FlyTampa scenery): short runway, no ILS but DME Arc approach with beach on one end and mountains on the other end of the runway.LPMA, Madeira (Aerosoft scenery); also a short runway with no straight in approach because of mountainous area.KLAS, Las Vegas: nice scenery at nightKJFK, New York: have a look at the advanced tutorial of PMDG.RJFU, Nagasaki (Beautiful payware scenery at http://www.overland.co.jp/english/sms/download.html); a lot airports in Japan are located on (artificial) islands.VMMC, Macau: feels like landing at an aircraft carrier.VHHX, Hong Kong Kai Tak: just pretend it is still there (http://aviation.narain.com/9dragons/index.html).RKSI, Seoul: stay out of North Korean airspace.I could go on and on, but like I said: these are just a few of my favs. I dubbed my latest "project": Follow the President. Allthough this calls for Air Force One (PMDG 747) it is not against the law to use the MD11. The idea is to pay a visit to all the 50 states in alphabetical order. I just started this trip. First I took Marine One (VH-71 repaint for fsx) from the White House to KADW. From there to Alabama: KMXF (DME Arc) and next Alaska: PAJN (tricky approach:visual rwy 08). Tomorrow I will be heading for Arizona KPHX.CheersJan Peter van Kempen

As i'm italian and i love the MD11, i fly very often with Cargoitalia planes out of my city airport, LIMC Malpensa Milan. Now i'm in love with Memphis and the infinite FedEx hub located on it. So, one of my favorite route is the LIMC-KMEM (with stop in EDDF or LFPG depending on the day).Shame that, because it's a long route, i can fly it very few times a year,Cheers,

LOWI - Innsbruck, Austria. It's got a short runway (2000m), it's situated in the Alps surrounded by high mountains, and it's got an offset localizer. Combine that with foggy and overcast weather and you got yourself a potentially deadly approach. My fav airport in Europe.TNCM - Mentioned in post above. Great airport in the caribbean. Short runway (2000m) with only a DME arc / VOR approach, no ILS. One mistake and you end up in the ocean.VHHX - Also mentioned above. One of the most dangerous airports in the world. Famous for its dangerous IGS13 visual approach where you had to follow visual aids and then bank hard in order to make it into the aiport in one piece. With numerous skyscrapers and mountains located to the north and its only runway jutting out into the harbour you better fly the approach correctly or it'll be your last. If you're looking for great scenery look no further than ORBX. And if you want large land areas coverered check out Ground Environment X.http://www.flytampa.org/http://en.shop.aeros...ht%20Simulationhttp://fullterrain.com/http://gex.flight1.net/http://www.fsdreamteam.com/

Awesome guys - thanks.I had flown the 13R visual at JFK before but decide to shoot the VOR last night, which wasn't much different, but at night in a visual in FSX can be unrealistic sometimes if the landmarks dont show up. Never occurred to me how it was like the HK IGS approach. Banking the MD like that aint easy. When I fly Coolskys S80 professional I always hit up the DCA river visual (I actually lived in DC for two years in an apartment building in Foggy Bottom. Place had a rooftop pool and it overlooked the Potomac. My roommate is a GA pilot, so we would take his backup radio up there, a laptop open on airnav.com and chill by the pool while we monitored the a/c on approach).I've flown the Innsbruck approach before but I'm pretty sure I did it completely wrong. I don't know why I have a hard time reading Austrian charts. I need to take another swing at it. Funny too, I lived abroad there one summer and saw planes coming in there all the time.I'll take a look at OrbX. I may be way off, but I was under the impression that its sceneries were just Australia. I'll look again. Thanks again for the suggestions guys - and if anyone can think of anythign else please post it up

No doubt, starting to decend in those mountains in a snow storm at dusk puts me on the edge of my seat!!

They started with Australia but have started to map the entire US beginning with the Pacific Northwest which is a beautiful region to fly in, the scenery looks absolutely stunning. I would say hands down Orbx scenery is the best out there, but that's my opinion.
