Please check & reply - FS9 forms cause increase in CPU fan speed

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this was a problem with FS2K2 or just new to FS9, or new to the latest NVidia video drivers I installed. In any case, when I select either of the two forms below (there maybe more forms/views that cause this problem), the CPU/cabinet fanson my PC increase their RPM/speed to a tremendous amount. The CPU ispegged at 100% (which is usually the case while FS9 runs). But, again, with these two forms, some unusual amount of CPU processor power must be needed because the CPU fans just get so very loud. Here are the two forms that cause this:#1 Choose Create A Flight. Click the Change button under theSelected location tab. Enter KORD (any airport with multiple gates will probably do the same thing). In the bottom left, for theRunway/Starting position pull-down list, click the down arrow andscroll down to see a few gate. Don't select any gate/runway, justleave the list displayed and scroll up and down. After about 30seconds or so, the CPU fans will begin to spool up the RPM to a very fast speed.#2 While in flight, open the Map dispay. Zoom in/out and scroll. After about 30 seconds or so, the CPU fans will begin to spool up the RPM to a very fast speed.Looking forward to your findings!Jerry G.

Well, I haven't seen this, but I have some ideas. To start with, I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with the fan spooling up like that, so don't worry too much. There is software out there that can monitor what your CPU is doing, including things like what it's temperature is at. The software can even do things like slow your processor down when it's not getting used, to save energy (think laptop) and reduce heat, thus reducing energy consumption even more by "possibly" slowing the fan down. My motherboard shipped with this software, which I never bothered to install. Anyway, I suppose it's possible that this sort of software could be built into your motherboards firmware, and maybe you have to turn it off manually. This is seperate from whatever XP is doing to save energy by turning off hard disks, monitors, etc.Anyway, it's just a possibility. - Martin
