T. Ruth 727 AP Pitch Control

Has anyone else had an issue with the pitch control in the 727 AP panel. I place the plane in auto-pilot and loc on to the VOR, however I cannot control the pitch of the plane with the AP pitch control. I tried setting the alt hold to reset and then turned it off and tried to pitch up and could not get it to work.... must be something I am doing?LW
