Posky 757 and Lonny Payne Panel stalls at 20000 feet

Featured Replies

I don't understand why the Posky 757 struggles beyond 20000 feet.I'd started with 70% fuel and progressively wound the climb rate back to 600 fpm with deicing on.With engines apparently running at full bore on autothrottle, it struggles to hold 200 knots IAS and eventually pitches up to a stall. This has happened to me twice (out of 2).Anybody else having that problem with the 757?The reason I mention the panel is a)it's complicated and I may have missed some buttons :( I think the panel installation alters the aircraft.cfg file.Anyone else had this trouble?

I had this problem once before with the same plane and panel but it was because somehow when I loaded it, the spoilers were deployed. Eventually, it couldn't climb anymore and struggled to hold speed and stalled. Make sure your spoilers are retracted, make sure your flaps are up (I have forgotten these once before also) and make sure your gear is up.If all that is correct then you may want to check your fuel and payload. If you are too heavy it can cause some problems also.

If you are trying to climb at only 200 knots then that is your problem. Above 10,000 feet climb at about 310 KIAS. By higher altitudes, this number will begin decreasing. Reduce your Vertical speed to maintain airspeed as best possible. Letting the airspeed drop very low will result in high nose up pitch, which will create more drag and make it even more difficult to hold an airspeed.By keeping airspeed high, the nose should stay relatively low (usually no more than 5

I realised after I posted I should have clarified that: the engines were on autothrottle and were apparently running at over 100% EPR and I'd reduced the climb rate to 600 fpm, which I'd have thought it would cope with at c. 20,000ft.It's not that I was deliberately flying at 200 knots - the aircraft seems unable to maintain let alone increase speed and climb at the same time.As regards the panel, I think the blurb says something like "the installer will optimise the aircraft.cfg file to fly with this panel". Now I'd assumed that meant light switches, standby's on radios etc, but I wondered if it had overwritten some of the more technical data - engine specifications, weights and the rest.I have the original and current aircraft.cfg - I ought to compare one with the other.

I know that firstly because I checked and secondly because the plane looks so great I keep looking at it from outside!Down at the bottom left of the panel are 3 buttons. PB is Parking Brake, AB is presumably Air Brakes (?) and VF is ....... I don't know.AB and VF were lit, but I can't see any signs of anything protruding by way of spoilers when you swith these from on to off.I assume that these may be in an "Armed" state rather than deployed. The / key does produce spoilers in the normal way.I started the installation from Version 1.1, and the manual for that seems to assume knowledge from Version 1.0.

This definetly sounds like you had either the spoilers deployed, flaps down, or gear down.

Hello,The aircraft.cfg only works with the aircraft that is included with the package. If you use any other aircraft, you will need to follow the instructions in the "aircraft configuration" file located in teh DOCS folder. The manual describes each system in detail and the buttons you are refering to are:PB - Push BackAB - Auto Speed BugsVF - Virtual First OfficerAll of the rest of the updates have detailed instructions on how to install. Make sure you followed these instructions and like the other guys said, make sure flaps gear and spoilers are correct. I cant think of a reason why you would have trouble keeping airspeed.Version 1.0 and 1.1 are almost identical and both contain all the documentation. The only difference is what site you got them from. If you have version 1.0 then you do not nead version 1.1. All the updates work with both versions. You never said what aircraft and Flight Sim you are running. Remember that if you are running the included aircraft in FS9, the gear, flaps and spoilers do not show up on the external view and they might actually be deployed or out of position and you will not see it.Lonny

Hi, very good of you to reply in person I appreciate it.Obviously it was nothing to do with the AB button then!Obviously when I had the problem my thoughts were throttles, gear, flaps, spoilers and the climb rate on the autopilot -I couldn't see anything amiss. I mentioned icing above but I guess FS2004 doesn't model icing other than pitot icing (?). Trim is the only other thing and I can't say I checked that, but as the autopilot was on, that should have taken care of itself.I was running the recent Posky 757 for FS2004 in FS2004 - in this case the BA version from "boeing_757-236_british_airways_'landor'.zip"I had applied your lp757pos update, and indeed the 4 between it and version 1.1.When I reviewed the instructions for the former, I saw that what I hadn't done was to replace the Posky aircraft.cfg with the one in lp757pos.The reason I didn't do it was because I assumed it related back to the 757 aircraft supplied with version 1.1, which can't be the current Posky model. However, I have now done that and got the thing quite happily up to 34,000 feet and 300+ knots this evening with everything working perfectly as far as I can see.It must be something in the Posky aircraft.cfg file, what I don't know, flap positions or something? If I had done what your instructions said first time around I probably wouldn't have had the problem. But, it's working now and I think both aircraft and panel are great.
