Closing runways in AFCAD2?

Featured Replies

Was following a thread in the Project AI forums about AFCAD2 and closing runways. I understand that closing a runway for takeoff or landing does nothing for the AI traffic. Is this true? Then, closing it for takeoff or landing would only affect what? The markings on the runway? Possibly, which runway ATC gives you?Just curious since tonite I was flying into Kodiak, ATC gives me rwy 11 for landing. There's no way I could land on it, terrain all around. So I got yelled at and landing 25.Thanks

The close and open will work as long as it is done symmetrically, that is the same thing is done to both ends of the runway and if it is only done to runways that are parallel.

I have done extensive testing at an airport with 3 non-parallel runways (LSZH).The closing and opening of runways (allways at both ends as mentioned above) for takeoff and/or landing does influcence which of the runways is used depending on wind direction (or no wind). However, you cannot trick FS2004 into using more than one runway (like one for take-offs and another one for landings) as it was easily possible in FS2002 with the help of Afcad1.Therefore your influence on 'runway selection' in FS2004/Afcad2 is extremely limited now and it is bascically impossible to created "realistic" traffic behaviour, especially at airports with non-parallel runways (and there are many of those!).FS2004 has made a huge step backwards in this respect!! Sorry, MS, but that's just the way it is....Walter

UNfortunately, your're right. In some ways, ATC is a step backward. While it's a step forward where parallell runways are concerned- as long as all of the runways are parallel. Places like ORD or BOS just can't put all of their traffic on 2 (or in the case of BOS, 1 when the winds are right) runways.ATL works really well, but there are no arrivlas on the departing runways unless you have aircraft taxiing from the North side for takeoff.Tim

My Airport has parallel runways. Atl Has them also. My runways are 26l-26r, 27l-27r. Atc will set takeoffs for both 26r and 27r. But will only allow landings on 26l, which is the northern-most runway. It does seem to matter which direction the wind flows. I can't get ATC to use 27l. Any suggestions. Thanks
