November 19, 200322 yr There was a post a long long time ago about the correct way to install display drivers. I searched for it but found nothing. I was just wondering what is the correct way to go about installing a new display driver? I remember it was a long process. How I've been doing it is just using the Nvidia installer and installing over the old ones. But I've noticed my performace in Fs2004 slowly getting worse. So, I want to change my driver, so my next easy question... what is the best drivers for a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 128mb card for FS2004? Also, like I said.. How do I go about installing it the right way. I thank all of you for helping me. Ty89m
November 19, 200322 yr ya know... seems everytime I have a problem, I get no help. I know someone out there has an opinion. But oh-well. Thanks anyway I guess. I don't mean to be rude, but this has been my problem with this forum for a long time now.
November 19, 200322 yr When I had an Nvidia card, thats all I did was uninstall the old drivers, then reinstall the new ones. I never had a problem. Some people will search for any leftover files and delete them, then search for registry keys and delete them, but IMO that's unneccessary. With my ATI Radeon, all I do is uninstall the old and reinstall the new, and I haven't had any problems.
November 19, 200322 yr There is no best driver... only what works best for you on your system.Removing drivers: Guessing that you might be using WinXp (because you don't say in your original post) all you have to do is uninstall the old drivers and install the new ones. All relevant driver files will be overwritten. If you wish the be more thorough, use DriverCleaner to do additional housekeeping. http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/And if you're still not satisfied, the next step would be to boot up in safe mode (after doing the two preceeding tasks) and cleaning the registry by hand.In the future if you request help, please give all system spec. May not seem important to you, but that info is very important to anybody wishing to assist (and there are plenty of folks here who do that).Cheers,
November 19, 200322 yr Hm ....You posted your question at 3.26 and had not had a reply by 4.371 hour and 11 minutes is one hell of a long time to wait without getting a reply to your problem.Sheesh.David
November 19, 200322 yr For nVidia cards, it depends on the source of your drivers. If you get them directly from either Microsoft (usually one version behind) or directly from nVidia, then you can simply run the .exe file without going through all the uninstall, cleaning and all that stuff. If, on the other hand, you want to use beta released drivers, even if they are WHQL certified, you have to uninstall and reinstall the new ones.MDavis
November 19, 200322 yr The best drivers are the 52.70's. Or not. Experimentation is required. The best way to install them is simply run the .exe installer. Unless you are habitually replacing drivers, in which case Driver Cleaner is a good idea to remove previous traces of old drivers. The best way to ask a question in this forum is to have some patience,we don't all live in your time zone, or share your impatience threshold. Or at least ask a question that hasn't been asked before, a thousand times. Or use the search engine. And you could try contributing to the forum rather than just taking from it. Those that are active participants and not just poncing scroungers with an attention problem do tend to receive more and better help.Hope you find some drivers that suit your needs.Allcott
