April 1, 201115 yr This is out of the RealityXP FSWXR-2100 Airborne Weather Radar Manual, Would anyone at PMDG care to comment on this?Thank's from Jim Quote,Of course, weather is also an important factor in flight simulation. With the release ofMicrosoft Flight Simulator 9, Microsoft has built an outstanding weather engine.Together with perfect weather add-ons (AS e.g.) weather becomes as important anduncontrollable as in reality. So in flight simulation weather radar also would be important. But since the Microsoftflight simulator does not simulate in could turbulence and precipitation, there is noreasonable way to program a radar. But anyway, weather radar simulation is possible, because we do what Microsoft hasnot implemented yet. We are going to assume precipitation in clouds and displaythat. In-cloud precipitation depends on certain meteorological conditions, what we dois to analyse the meteorological situation and out of that we determine the amount ofprecipitation there would be in reality. The algorithm for that has been worked outtogether with meteorologists.Functions and displaying of that precipitation data is based on the Rockwell CollinsWXR-2100 weather radar, used in many major airliners (B737 up to B777, all Airbus)The weather radar avionic itself is very complex to use and needs detailedunderstanding of its principle. It is not a “watch and trust” avionic as TCAS forexample. The weather radar image depends mostly on its setup, which is done by thepilot. So many good reasons to use a weather radar system in flight simulator, which willincrease your workload, increase your aviation knowledge and so fun on flying.I want to thank you that you have purchased the gauge and wish you many funnyhours on flying with realistic weather radar usage in your cockpitPraxmarer FlorianAdd On Gauges Jim Driscoll, MSI Raider GE76 12UHS-607 17.3" Gaming Laptop Computer - Blue Intel Core i9 12th Gen 12900HK 1.8GHz Processor; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 16GB GDDR6; 64GB DDR5-4800 RAM; Dual M2 2TB Solid State Drives.Driving a Sony KD-50X75, and KDL-48R470B @ 4k 3724x2094,MSFS 2020, 30 FPS on Ultra Settings. April 14, 201115 yr :( Well.. this topic has been discussed a lot if times actually.Jim, if you have anyway to locate where exactly the clouds are and its parameters, such as type, size, etc. I can even try to program a WX radar. The reality is that what we can get from FSX is simply METAR from each weather station. Even for Active Sky, it simply writes METAR to weather stations. So, based on METAR, what we can do is nothing other than guess and predict. It can't be accurate so it doesn't make a lot of sens.I'm looking forward to Microsoft Flight, I hope they will provide more direct controls such as setting clouds to a specific position, and WX will be possible. --- Howie Wong
