Good Lord, I just found out that the P-51 Miss America crashed at Reno. She threw a rod in a race, siezed the motor and prop, and had to dead stick in off the field. The pilot was unhurt in what is one of the most awesome jobs of airmanship we may ever see. Just about trashed the plane though, but as they say, any landing you walk away from is a good one. Kudos to him for saving himself and the spectators a Reno. The plane may be damaged beyond repair.

A P-51 is never damaged beyond repair. I have seen many come back from that condition, all it takes is BUCKS.Steve

I really hate to hear that. Not just that the P-51 is one of my favorite classics, but it was probably one of the most recognizable P-51's. Here's hoping they are able to salvage it.
