Tired of researching about Video Cards.

Featured Replies

Hello all, I have been looking at all kinds of websites and reviews in order to decide between a FX5600 card or an ATI 9600 for FS2004. Both would be 256 Mb. I read some reports that say that the Nvidia is better. SOme others say that the ATI is better. I have seen reviews using a thousand programs and games. At the end, I'm even more confused that I started. And now I don't know what to do.Some are concerned about ATI's flicker. Others say it is truly superior.Anyone could help this poor soul, please?I'd appreciate facts in relation to these cards and FS2004. I need it for a dedicated PC for FS2004 on a P-IV 2.4 with 1Gb DDR333 RAM. I just want someone eho has seen them both working on FS2004 on similar PCs. Which one do I buy? Thanks in advance,Rafa.

Hi Rafa,Sorry, I don't own either of the cards you're researching. But I do use an ATI 9700 Pro, and I can tell you that the flickering problem is resolved by using the latest Catalyst (3.9) drivers, so don't let that influence your decision. I'm very happy with my 9700 even with it's paltry 128mb ;-).

There is so much hype and lies posted that like you, I was really crossing my fingers when I got my new card home and tried it out.It is sad, but the very real problem is that few people have access to multiple cards to be able to offer a valid comparison, and others will flat out exaggerate with out of the world claims simply because that is the card they have. Add to this that people hack benchmarks to make their personal system report higher numbers then it really delivers.I would suggest you find a place where you can buy both and return the one you don't like.ATI & nVidia have diverged into different techniques for producing the image you see on your screen. They can not be directly compared any longer. Both have their vocal supporters that claim image quality is better. It has now shifted out of the speed race and into the image quality area where the only facts you will get are those biased by the reviewers (who get free toys to say things). In any case, it is rather unlikely that you will get anything at all out of the extra 128 megs on the video card based on your system.I have been happy with both ATI and nVidia cards at different points in time. I think ATI is winning right now, but you are not buying one of the bleeding edge cards so I'm not sure where last years models factor in.
