Looking for graphics improvement. Currently running [email protected]; EVGA GTX480@801 with 6gig of Dominator Triple Channel memory; TH2Go-DE; Win 7/64. Using FSX, UTX, GEX, REX, Ozx-NA, Orbix PNW/Rockies. Have used Bojote's Tweaker. I have tried both of Bojote's recommended FPS limiters but they just don't seem to work for me. I typically fly GA low tech aircraft. At major city airports I get from 15 to 25 FPS. At altitude I run from 25 to 50 FPS. Even at low FPS the system runs fairly jump free and completely jump free around 23 or so. I would like to raise my lowest FPS to around 25 and populate the autogen a little further out than 1/2 mile or so. All of this without losing any eye candy, I am addicted.Am I graphics bound, CPU or need more memory? $ are a limitation. What would you recommend? Thanks Rick S.

With your system specs you should be able to run FSX w/o any problems. You have more than enough memory and an excellent graphics card. FSX is more dependent upon the CPU and the more cores you have the better and your CPU meets those specs. I don't think you need Bojote's tweaks with your system. I don't use any tweaks other than the HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the graphics section and I get great FPS. Sometimes you can just over tweak and things get out of kilter. So, I would save or rename your current fsx.cfg (in case you want it back), restart FSX and let the config rebuild. Then slowly change the FSX settings keeping in mind maxing out scenery settings do not necessarily equal the best graphics. I do not have all of my scenery sliders maxed out and I have crisp and clear graphics. What I usually do when I have to reinstall FSX or rebuild my FSX.cfg is make some minor and general adjustments in the settings, like graphics resolution, sound, AI, and realism then start FSX and see how it performs on the default settings. Then I slowly make some modifications if I think they are needed.Best regards,Jim

So I should delete the .cfg and set everything to default. What adjustments would you recommend to start with or pay special attention to.ThanksRick S.

It will depend on your AA settings. You can try downclocking your CPU. Is your FPS lower after that? Set your CPU back to 3.86GHz and dowclock your GPU? No change in FPS? if the answer was yes for both questions, you are CPU limited. Conversely, if downclocking your GPU makes your FPS drop but it remains tha same at lower CPU clocks, your GPU is the bottleneck."At major city airports" is the typical CPU bound scenario. An overclocked Sandy Bridge CPU will provide a 30 - 40% perf boost
