Reverse and Forward Thrust on a single throttle?

Featured Replies

I currently have a Thrustmaster Joystick that has idle and afterburner detents. As it stands, I have to assign a button on the joystick for "reduce throttle rapidly", so that I can do thrust reverse and deploy spoilers during touchdown. What I would like to do is set the idle detent, as the "zero" throttle setting. I would then like to assign the area between the idle detent and the throttle stop as reverse, And the area from the idle detent to the max throttle stop as the "normal throttle" area.I tried the button assignment tool that comes with it, and also tried to see if it is done in FS9.Does anyone know of a tool that will allow me to "split" the throttle into Reverse and Forward portions?

You could try FSUIPC, need payed version not freebie for joystick control. If your throttle has an analog output for the throttle, it should work. I simulate this function using FSUIPC, except my throttle control doesn't have any physical detents.W. Sieffert

Thanks for the tip. If I had a lot of stuff using FSUIPC I might consider it, but to pay $20.00 for essentially setting up my throttle is a bit steep for me right now.I wonder if any of the other IPC freeware programs (like fsconnect or such) allow this

I tried that once. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Which Thrustmaster is that? Not the Cougar HOTAS by chance? I have that one and it can easily be programmed for that, works like a charm.Regards,Robert

"Which Thrustmaster is that? Not the Cougar HOTAS by chance? I have that one and it can easily be programmed for that, works like a charm."Yep! :-)

Nope, it's the thrustmaster topgun afterburner 2.I tried an earlier version of FSUIPC with FS2002, and indeed FSUIPC allows you to do it very easily. Now I have to decide if that functionality is worth 20 Euros for FS2004.

I am trying to do the same with a Suncom SFS Dual throttle and Windows XP. Right now, using registered FSUIPC, the axis of my throttle shows around +16400 to -16400. Zero is minimum throttle and puts the actual Suncom throttle arm standing straight up. Forward from there is positive thrust and back from there are the reversers. Problem is the Suncom has a nice detend built in near the bottom of the travel range but I cannot get FS or FSUIPC to change zero to that point. Frustrating!Plus I would love to get the second throttle to be recognized as well but cannot figure that one out either. I have read the documentation cannot find what I need. Looking for any help!!Trevor

Don't go by the numbers. They are meaningless in the programming. The numbers are just there for measurement on the axis. On page 3 of 7, you can place your max, idle and reverse settings anywhere in the throw of the joystick.(I am basing this on FS2002 FSUIPC, but I expect it to be the same in registered FSUIPC)On the Joystick tab, On Page 1 of 7, Check the "map to four throttles checkmark.".Then go to page 3 of 7 to program your throttle. Axis 2 through 4 will automatically be copied, so don't worry. On Throttle one, hit reset. Three values will show:Reverse, Idle, Max.For reverse, take your throttle to the bottom stop and hit set. For "idle", position the throttle at your detent. (Note, if your throttle has any play at the detent, give some downward pressure on the throttle before you hit the set button. This will give you some play before the reversers come on. For Max, bring the throttle up to max throttle and press set.Now your all set.
