June 29, 201114 yr I am considering purchasing a real Garmin GPS unit for use in real-world flying, and I would like something that will interface with FSX. I've read that with the right cable FSUIPC will do this, but in researching this I also discovered a product from Flight1 I'd not heard of before, SimLink96. It looks like SimLink96 will only interface with the x96 Garmin units, whereas FSUIPC will interface with a wider variety of units (particularly the GPSMAP 295). I know FSUIPC includes a huge variety of features, but frankly I'm not sure I'd use it for anything other than the GPS interface. This is just a guess, but I get the impression that SimLink96 might be easier to set up and possibly easier on system resources since it only does one thing. Has anyone used either or both of these products for interfacing with a real GPS? Other than the product info page on Flight1's website I couldn't find any information on SimLink96, and while there is a good bit of information on using FSUIPC with a real GPS most of it is dated (i.e., pre-FSX).
