.net 4.0

Featured Replies

HI All,I figured this forum might be the best place to ask the question. I understand 4.0 is available but hesitant to install as the OS Auto Update feature does not see it. I understand that there are a few issues with installers, one of which was Aerosoft. It had been stated on other forums that some installers may corrupt the .net installation. I am using Win7 64 bit for FSX and 1 client, and Win XP SP3 as another client, each of which use either simconnect or Widefs for comms. Other than a requirement for for some installers, is there any reason I should upgrade to 4.0 other than a requirement for an installer? If so, what are the benefits, and should I install on both of the OS's I am currently using? Thanks for your InputBob

Framework 4 is only going to help applications that use it. It won't really help your OS other then the fact that if you don't have it, a program might not run. There a number of versions available and it really doesn't hurt to have all of them installed. The only interesting issue that I've run into with Win7x64 was with framework 1.1. Windows will popup a warning if you install it into that OS version but I have and haven't seen anything adverse yet. It doesn't mean something won't happen though.I am currently in the final stages of a framework 4 app for flight simulator and have had nothing but a good experience developing with it...I think it's sound. Just stay away from Windows update if you can :)Mark
